JR vs. BCC- I'll take the later

Anonymous
The last post posed some interesting comparisons but the question remains will JR or the new school ever be able to compete with BCC? I say no. Kids at Wilson are still trying to coordinate their classes for the year. Parent involvement alone at BCC makes the school run smoother. I switched my kid after 10tth grade (Deal to Wilson) and it was the best decision we made. We were not in it for college outcome (he is happy at the University of Maryland and probably would have gotten there from either school. He didn't get into Walls - we were disappointed but tried Wilson. But after 1 year- it was clear. Our MD townhouse is as small (if not smaller) than our Mount Pleasant convenient home and our commutes are longer but my kid didn't have to deal with all the extra stress that comes with going to Wilson.

Anyone else noticing these "X vs Y" posts seem to be coming up more and more as other posts wane?

Everybody knows that deep down there is no comparison. Like you, best move I ever made.

You'll take the later? I think you mean the latter?

If you're going to be elitist you should spell check.

Thanks for this. Currently pondering whether to move to NW DC or Bethesda. Culturally I like DC but BCC seems so much more functional. How was the cultural adjustment for you?

Not op but -
Downtown DC life these days has the same line up as Bethesda. Sweet Green, Blue Mercury so it feels similar. A little more driving and more biking. We don't have to commute because we work from home. We go to Whitman which is further out than BCC and it's fine but much whiter...and that is a step down for us but we wanted the better school.

But Wilson/JR kids know how to navigate fort Reno, while high at night and they know all the best places to hide at Janney to get high. Come on… every school can’t teach these skills.

I prefer the ladder. Gets my higher faster.

Basic teenage skills anywhere

Just own your choice, and move on. You clearly don't, or you wouldn't be trying to justify it here.

Besides, my just-graduated Wilson kid is friends with tons of BCC kids and there never was any measurable stress differences. C'mon.

Thank you, OP. As someone who is considering this same type of move, I wonder about this exact comparison.

BCC kids are just as capable and have more practice hiding it.

Everything I've been hearing from my BCC parent friends are that that school suffers from much the same administrative frustrations as JR. Schedules with double class periods; painful process to get them corrected.

After I eyeballed the Bethesda Magazine database on college acceptances last year I was pretty underwhelmed with the BCC outcomes.

Agree. If you're gonna make the move- Whitman is the place that will make a difference in education. BCC has less fights in the hallway compared to JR I hear from my kids tiktok knowlege. That'd get my vote. But if you want to climb the ladder its Whitman all the way.

The new school is not even open yet and you already compare it 🤦‍♀️
