I'm a "foodie," DH is not

We have Bittman books, but DH comes home too late to cook for the family (like, 8:30) and doesn't even grill. I don't want to "trick" him into cooking, I want DH to actually cook.

Grrrr...

I agree with PPs, here - this isn't fair. Our household is a little similar - we both like good food, but my husband just likes to eat it - doesn't care where it comes from. Before we had DS, I did all the cooking, and he did the cleaning. He appreciated the cooking but wasn't going to get involved - even having him help me plan the week's menu is like pulling teeth. Now that we have DS, he agrees with me (I think) that it is important to raise them to eat good, whole, healthy foods, but he is never going to take the laboring oar on this. He will start dinner if I am putting DS to bed, but even after well more than a year, I have to give him very specific instructions (slice peppers lengthwise, put pot of water to boil), and he will not engage in technique (I could never say 'sweat some garlic' or 'deglaze the pan'). This is improvement, though.

Bottom line - if you can get him to buy into the health aspects, maybe he'll find a way to help, but I dont think you can expect him to want to cook.

Sorry, OP I feel your pain. DH's mom cooked five dishes that rotated, never enough for the family. Thought that if the food was gone "well, it must have been good" - nope, there was never enough food, Einstein.

DH would be happy eating cereal because that is how he grew up. Sad.

I'm not looking for a cook, just someone that eats something decent and is an example for the kids. Good luck on the cooking aspect.

My sister has this issue - her DH eats pizza, cereal and grilled meat (and that's about it). Her kids so far are really good eaters ... but her husband is open to her telling the kids (and will tell the kids himself), that he's "silly" for not eating some of the stuff that she's feeding them.
