Why are you in this thread?!?

Because I have a senior applying to college right now.

If you have NEVER had to fill out FAFSA, why are you bothering to post in this thread?

It would appear the OP posted this to let those of us who actually do fill out FAFSA know it opened on Saturday the 1st!

PP said they were full pay but filling it out for merit aid. I asked what schools require FAFSA for merit aid. That is why.

Me neither but we were at a college fair for our youngest recently and the rep for Ohio University told us that if we filled out the FAFSA our son would receive a $2,000 scholarship. I'm not sure I'd disclose all of our financial info though for $2k.

VCU requires for merit aid.

Thanks! I heard from a friend Fordham requires FAFSA for merit as well.

Same question. Do schools require Fafsa for merit aid?

Is there a way not to let kids see all our financial info?

Maybe there is a list somewhere of schools that require it for merit aid?

If a school counts our home equity, we won’t get aid.

Also, if you fill it out you get the $5500+ unsubsidized federal loan. We did that for each child each year. Well worth it, especially considering today's interest rates

Worth the time and disclosing all your financial info to school and your kids just for 5500 loans ?

I'm the previous full pay poster. It doesn't take much time to fill out. We did it last night. I don't remember which schools were bugging us after admission that they needed the FAFSA in order to finish processing merit and financial aid. But it was clear that they had a process and not having that checked off was preventing them from finishing their process. It was becoming more of a hassle to not fill it out than to just do it.

It's not like you actually have to provided your entire financial existence if you aren't expecting financial aid. Income and savings was sufficient for us to check the box and move on.

Not reporting everything could be viewed Lying on FAFSA which is a felony, don’t want to mess with that for the $5500 loan

Sounds like you’ve already applied and been admitted to some places. On the applications, did you say yes or no on the “are you applying for financial aid” question? If you said no, should you still fill out the Fafsa? Or not?
