My parents like Collington in Mitchellville quite a lot.

No, I doubt that. I guess DC is more expensive than MD/VA. You will have to move out of DMV area.

You doubt what? OP asked a question, not made a statement.

PP doubt there is such areas in DMV. Duh.

Ok, but the way pp phrased it doesn't make sense with OP's question.

My relatives have been happy in King Farm--easy to walk to parks, restaurants, grocery store, haircuts, and the like. Crime is low and they feel safe. It's walkable to Shady Grove metro or there is a shuttle. It's also a short drive for them to the gym, library, church, and hospital. There is a large Kaiser center close by too though they have different insurance so don't use it. Rockville Town Center and Rio have a lot of concerts and street fairs they enjoy.

Is it affordable? I guess that depends on the person. Their condo is large, all on one level, and had already had a lot of accessibility-related renovations. There is a private garage but it's fairly small. Lots of other older/empty nest folks nearby and two assisted living/rehab places in the area so they can move if they ever need to. Maryland isn't the best place to retire or die for tax purposes so they sometimes talk about moving to VA, PA, or WV, but the taxes pay for a lot of services and supports they are enjoying.
