When was it ever not safe?
People name their kids Olivia still and I constantly see the name I’m headlines. I don’t think she’ll be associated with the celeb and I don’t think it’s a bad association anyways. |
| Yes, definitely. I live in NYC, so my first thought was actually the bakery rather than than the celebrity/philanthropist. |
| I think it's a really great name. I also think it's not rare enough that it will be forever associated with Jolie. None of her friends will know who Angelina Jolie is by the time they're 10+ |
| Great name. NBD. |
|
I wouldn't do it. Angelina is constantly doing something, and rarely something that seems great.
But I do love a PP's suggestion of Angeline. |
| There’s Angelina and there’s Angelina Jolie. There has to be a Jolie for me associate the name with the actress. |
| Angelina is a perfectly normal name, although it's too fancy for my taste. Use it proudly! |
I wanted to name DD2 that! Went in for the anatomy scan and told the tech the name and she instantly said, "after the actress?! Come on!" um, no not after the actress. We ended up going with a different name.

1000% I just realized in reading this post that my DD's classmate, who she has known for 7 years, (11 years old now), is named the same name as Angelina Jolie. I am also a big follower of celeb gossip and a generally observant person. Amazing. The only thing I had ever thought of is Angelina Ballerina, which is not so popular these days. OP, go for it. |
This is strange comment about a person who has devoted a huge chunk of her time, effort, and money to humanitarian efforts, but ok. |
+1 |
| Do you think people are going to look at your little Angelina and say "I hate that girl, she hast he same name as a super annoying actress!"? Not going to happen. They will say "Oh, I agree, Angelina is a pretty name." |
|
It will definitely be associated with Angelina Jolie.
But it's such a pretty name! I know one who goes by Lina, just because it suits her, and that's pretty, too! Just go for it. |
+1 totally agree with PPs that people always refer to the actress by full name. So I don't think the association is too overwhelming. It's not like Beyonce or Oprah, etc. I also really like Angeline as a name personally. |
Me too! |
