Dogs are often treated quite poorly. Have you been to the south? Don’t get confused by the DMV bubble. |
For me it’s specifically written down. At the point I can no longer do XYZ, and am cognitively intact and able to express my desire to end things. My kids know about it and we’re going to Switzerland. |
I thought this was going to be about how you can put a dog to sleep |
Why? You can easily get enough heroin to knock yourself off right here in the good ole USA. Unless, of course, you were looking forward to burning up the last of your airline points. |
How mercenary of you. You can see why we don't want to leave end of life decisions to others. |
Actually if I ever get that sick, become a burden on my kids, this is my plan. I'm going to get majorly drugged up and go swimming. There will not be a nursing home in my future, that is for sure. |
The problem is with a disease like Alzheimer's often in the beginning quality of life is fine since you are just a little confused but overall still enjoying life. And then by the time things are bad, it is hard to end things. |
I think a lot of people have this as their plan but it can easily be foiled by Mother Nature. A stroke can upset all of that in a split second. Paralazation, blindess, etc. |
OP if my dog acted like my elderly mother he would be barking constantly, attacking frequently, acting like the alpha at all times and he's bite people. By law we would be required to put him to sleep. Even if we weren't required, presumably, by that stage he's only have at moist a few years to live. My mother has already spent many years behaving this way and she is in good health. I challenge anyone with a smug attitude about eldercare to move in with my mother for a month. Then we'll talk. |
I don't know what OP's agenda is but it is their new dedicated mission in life to stir the pot on this board criticizing anyone who dares complain about the burdens that their elderly parents are in the American system, and how much the American system sucks. Is this Putin's new troll forum because all the potential forums about U.S. politics have already been taken by other trolls?
I think we treat dogs better because we don't try to prolong their lives indefinitely, and there is an expectation that prolonging their lives with increasingly expensive interventions at little ultimate reward to the animal is inhumane *to the animal.* We treat dogs better than people because we care about their quality of life, not just their quantity. But OP needs to go find a hobby. |
Amen to this. We definitely have an anti-American troll who I assume is elderly, her Americanized adult kids have gotten therapy and set boundaries and she has a massive chip on her shoulder. |
I didn't get that feeling. It's legit to ask how we can spoilt our dogs and neglect our elderly. But it's also true that every selfish behavior I pay for - from buying ice cream to going on a fancy vacation - is a choice to be self indulgent in that moment, and not save that $5.99 or $5999 to spend on charity. I wouldn't assume that Russia does any better with their poor and needy than we do. |
If this isn't a thought provoking question then I don't know what would be? |
Who cares what Russia does? We don't control Russia and can't improve life for Russians, its their job to fix their country. We sure can raise voice for our elderly population. Every single one of us will be in their shoes sooner or later. |
Why turn every debate toward what government got to do, lets try what we as individuals can do to solve this problem? |
