JUST moved to South Arlington and looking for a swim club

I agree with others to call all the winter swim leagues the pp listed above and hopefully you will find something. For summer, in arlington it is particularly tough as most summer pools have very long waitlists. Since you're in south arlington, maybe someone can chime in from alexandria if there are any pools that don't typically have a waitlist. In north arlington many families in your situation travel to pools in mclean in this situation. Some that often don't have long wait lists are high point and kent gardens. Oh one that might be closer to you that a neighbor got in quickly and like a lot (they said it's chill which they like) is sleepy hollow bath and racquet. Another that I don't know much about but looks like you can immediately join is forest hollow https://www.foresthollow.com/membership/

Finally close to yorktown high school is Knights of Columbus. This pool does not have a wait list and does membership each year in the spring. You need to sign up right when it opens, I think it is usually April 1st, but you can email and check when it will be and then just be ready. https://www.columbusclubpools.com/pricing/

For summer teams coming from S. Arlington -- Lincolnia Park, Forest Hollow, and Sleepy Hollow. The first two do not have a wait. All are really nice pools with good teams. If you want your kid to swim they are up and coming. Lincolnia Park is really inexpensive and a very nice pool. I would reach out to them and their team.

What age/level is your kid, OP? AAC or other winter clubs may have spots at higher levels.
Also, as a short term solution, look into APS Swim School. I think they have some groups for kids who already know all 4 strokes, etc. The Arlington parks & rec aquatic classes full within seconds/minutes of registration opening.

Fort Myer - you have to be attached to the military or government to be members. Also they do not have any home meets.

Chinquapin - is an indoor pool. Not really a summer team.

It sounds like OP is looking for club swim, not a summer swim team. Although, OP perhaps you should research summer swim teams because it is its own beast in this area. People refer to club swim as “winter swim” which is strange to me because it’s clearly year round swim, minus a break after long course and short course seasons. If you mention a “swim team”, many people think of summer swim teams first, so be sure to clarify that you want year round or “winter swim”.

Depending on where in Arlington you are, Alexandria could be a possibility. There are teams at Mt. Vernon Rec Center (Potomac Marlins), Lee District (Shark Tank, NCAP, Marlins), and Chinquapin (WEAquatics, Marlins).

For FM: no, they allow a portion of the team to be non-military/non-govt. True about no home meets.
Different Chinquapin. There is an outdoor pool (Old Town Pool) with a summer team in the CSL.

There is a winter program called Swim Farm that is run by one of the summer club coaches. It is not a USA swim team that does meets, but if you are looking for something to keep a younger kid in the water, it is a good option. They practice at the Arlington high school pools.

OP's initial question was about club swim and she got some answers, but she was also surprised at news that summer swim options near their families have long waitlists so posters are also helping identify NVSL pools for summer swim that might have space if she's willing to drive a bit further to Alexandria, Annandale or Falls Church.

NCAP has a Marymount site.

York has a 12 and over group at Yorktown HS that has room. It’s a late practice, 8:30pm.

Look at Potomac Marlins at Chinquapin, It's adjacent to Alexandria City High School and could be easier for you to access from south Arlington than locations like Yorktown HS.

For summer, you could also look at Parklawn or Dowden Terrace. Both have wait lists, but I don't think they are the multi-year waitlists that some NVSL pools have.

Here's a list of clubs in the greater metro area, including those beyond Arlington.

I can’t tell if it’s truly because parents are more competitive here, or because resources and facilities haven’t grown at a rate that matches that of the population. We had our pick of gymnastics teams, swim clubs, and even country clubs and swim clubs out there.

Now it’s a frenzy to access even a wait list.

It’s the competitive parents. We recently moved from the DC area after living there for 20+ years. Demand has always been there. It’s the over the top parents that make it suck. Sorry, there are waitlists for everything.

The main selling point of our house was we sold it with a pool membership. Not even in a competitive division but still with a 5+ year waitlist.

Welcome to DC.
