Loving sports as much as your husband

I like them more and play(ed) them way more than DH. But he does like football and I think football is lame AF. So our interests don't overlap. That's fine.

I cannot get into sports, and neither can my husband. I have two middle school boys, and we have been trying to watch football this season because they are feeling kind of out of the conversation at school. We learned some of the names of the players, made snacks for the game, learned the fight songs and play them at home, got jersey's to wear during the game, set off fireworks at every touchdown, etc. We have even bought tickets and gone to a game.
And even with everything we are trying to do, we can only make it about 2 hours before we all give up and put on a movie. Even though we paid close to $800 for tickets and parking, we left the game we went to shortly after halftime.

Any tips on how to make the games more exciting?

Drink a few $14 beers and then pick a fight with someone from Philadelphia.

My husband likes sports but I love them. We regularly watch the regular season and playoffs of four sports and I have partial season tickets to the Nats, Caps, and Wiz. My husband doesn't enjoy the time commitment of season tickets so I've been taking my son (now 6) solo to baseball games since he was 9 months old. Either my husband or a friend will come to the basketball and hockey games with us. I suppose there was a chance my son wouldn't like sports but the fact he's been going since he was an infant made that miniscule. Now it's a ton of fun as we discuss why a play happened, the rivalries, and players from each team.

My buddy is currently dating a female sports newscaster. She's been an on-air personality for like 15 years, talking about sports in a professional capacity.

He's a big sports guy, but she absolutely destroys his sports opinions and knows tons of stats, random facts, etc. It's kinda funny, but at the same time I think it hurts his ego a bit.

You'd think a "sports guy!" would love a wife who is equally as devoted to sports, but in reality most of these guys have pretty thin skins and just like to hear themselves talk.

Anonymous wrote:Any other woman here who loves sports as much as her husband or more? I read on DCUM all the time about how women hate football season and dislike watching sports. My mom is like this. Somehow she has two daughters who love all sports. I don’t think there is a sport I won’t watch. I play or have played a ton of sports (soccer, softball, basketball, skiing, swimming, etc).

I am afraid my kids aren’t going to love sports and I won’t know what to do with them on weekends.

You need a hobby. Sitting on your bum all day watching sports is a waste of a day that you’ll never get back. Good luck…

Please don't be this person to your kid.

DH liked football, we actually had season tickets in 3 stadiums at one point. I enjoyed it but would not say loved it. He hates the NFL now and really doesn't care to much for college football.

He watches F1 for the tech/strategy side. It doesn't dictate his schedule. We are both Liverpool soccer fans, again our schedule is not dictated by games.

We are active, golf, tennis, pickleball, skiing, hiking, kayaking etc. But we aren't hard core about any one.
I think this is good for our son because he sees us being active but doesn't have to put up with obsessive nonsense
that some of his friends inflict on their kids.

We both much prefer to play them than to watch them. We don't watch much sports at all---except our teens in their games all weekend --lol.

That is some solid advice.

True, works regardless of franchise: Eagles, Flyers, even Union!
