Someone hit my car and won't provide a copy of their insurance card

This. It's unlikely your premium will go up if the "perp" is insured and admitted guilt. Don't contact her again. That depends. If you’ve never filed an accident claim, then even a no-fault claim might cause you to lose a discount on your policy.

That being said, it wouldn’t go up very much. I went entirely through the other driver’s insurance company for an accident about 15 years ago. It was a horrible experience. Luckily the damage was mostly cosmetic, so it was drivable while I waited for the process to play out. They did pay for everything, but it took a couple months. I wouldn't do it again that way.

Yes. Always go straight to the insurance company. We let a trusted neighbor pay on the side for repairs but one time when I hit a neighbor’s car we immediately turned it over to Geico. They did not raise our rates but I wouldn’t count on that in general.

Definitely always take a photo of the other drivers tag. I don't know if they have to let you take a photo of their insurance card? But there's no guarantee that the police will show up for something minor and if they do, you might be waiting hours for them.

I had same thing. As long as you have their name and contact info just call 800 number their insurance company.

You don’t need policy number.

I had name, women lived Rockville and USAA. All I needed. She did not have card.

Don’t be surprised if you call insurance he denies or reports to your insurance. He will get a 40 percent hike in insurance for 3-5 years which is why he was willing to pay

Unless there is an injury the driver only has to exchange info and can leave. You can’t hold him hostage.

If someone won’t give you complete insurance information you definitely call the cops. Insurance has much easier time when there’s a police report. That’s part of the job of the police, if we can’t expect them to do their jobs then we need to hire more that can.
