Totally fine to pull kindergarten child out for a week?

Go and enjoy yourselves. Once they get to middle and high school, pulling them out isn’t as easy or advisable.

Oh, if some random mom of high schoolers says it's ok, then surely it must be!

Kids should learn from Day One that schooling is very important and that you don't skip it for things like Disney. It doesn't really matter whether the kid is actually "missing" something.

LOL

Education is important. Schooling is not.

Yes. No one ever thinks at HS graduation/dropping their kid off at college “I wish I’d spent less time with my child”

This is totally fine to do, right?

Definitely do it. Family experiences and travel should always win out over school.

Education can happen anywhere. All school really does is condition humans to go somewhere Mon-Fri 9-5, receive instructions/directions, and sustain attention to them.

It’s your child, right? Not the school’s. Not the government’s. Why would it not be alright?

Actually, Virginia law requires a kid to go to kindergarten.

Who defines what kindergarten is? Does that mean a government school? Or can mom & dad homeschool for a week?

That’s not homeschool and you know it.

Define "fine." I personally don't see any moral or educational reason to care, but I think it's technically against the rules so the school may give you mild grief about it. But I seriously doubt they'd pursue much for four days absence around a holiday.

+1 - this is a weird message to send to a kindergartener.

Right. I have no doubt you're also on DCUM complaining about lazy teachers and underperforming schools.

Oh please. OP just doesn't want to spend the extra money to go during actual school breaks.

We totally did it last year. It's fine.

I think it is fine to do this in the early grades especially if you your child is doing well in school. I say make the most of it while your kid is young and not tied down with tons of schoolwork and extra curriculars!

who cares if it is unexcused! what are they going to do??

100% fine. just be honest about what you are doing and don't try to pass it off as being sick.

Actually it doesn't. You're not considered a truant until 1st grade.
