I'm considering pulling my child out for 4 days in November to go to Disney. Child is in kindergarten.
This is totally fine to do, right? |
It’s your child, right? Not the school’s. Not the government’s. Why would it not be alright? |
|
I did this regularly until 3rd grade.
Honestly what are they going miss. As if they will fall behind lol |

Mom of high schoolers here. Totally fine in November. The only time it wouldn’t be a good idea would be the first month of school and the last week — those transitions are important.
Go and enjoy yourselves. Once they get to middle and high school, pulling them out isn’t as easy or advisable. |
| Of course. What are they going to miss, some finger painting? |
| Totally ok. |
| Totally fine! |
| Of course. |
| Yup. We missed two weeks of school last year (at various times) and my kid still scored in the 99th % on all the tests she had and had good reports from her teachers. She got so much from her time off school and with extended family we rarely see. |
| Yes. They might send a letter about truancy since it will be unexcused. |
| 100% FINE |
Oh, if some random mom of high schoolers says it's ok, then surely it must be!
Kids should learn from Day One that schooling is very important and that you don't skip it for things like Disney. It doesn't really matter whether the kid is actually "missing" something. |
Actually, Virginia law requires a kid to go to kindergarten. |
| Yes |
Yes, knowing it will count as I excused absences is important. Plenty of people still do it, but it’s not excused. |
