If your college kid lives with you ...

If they have a serious girlfriend, yes, they stay over and they stay in the same bedroom.

One did not spend the night because of her parents, but I felt way worse having her drive home over an hour at midnight and would have preferred she sleep over.

At our house - no overnights in the same room. We let DC know our schedule. They can then surmise when they will have the house completely to themselves. We don't need to say why. We have said we think it's important that they can entertain without us there and know we will be gone when we say we will.

If they have a guest from out of town, even very serious ...even if they live together ... no overnighting in the same room. We have a guest room. What happens after we've gone to bed, I don't know. But they know and respect my insistence that I don't want it to be morning and be greeting them coming out of the same bedroom.

So no.

Why?

It's not fair unless they bring enough for everyone to share.

If a SO visits from a distance away and needs to overnight that's different. But they are staying in separate bedrooms. What happens between midnight - 6am, I don't know about. But when I say goodnight I have the expectation that everyone goes to their separate rooms, and I say good morning when everyone comes out of their separate rooms.

+1

It is not a place to hook up with a date.

Why wouldn't you allow it if it's a longterm relationship between 2 consenting adults? It's not like they're going to stop completely just because you don't allow it in your house.
