The top ranked LACs in the 2023 Niche ranking are:
#18 Harvey Mudd #20 PomonaCollege #29 Claremont McKenna College #30 Bowdoin #31 Swarthmore #32 Barnard #33 Davidson #35 USMA at West Point #36 Wellesley College #37 Wash & Lee #40 Amherst #43 Williams #44 Middlebury #51 Haverford #54 Colgate #56 Bates #58 Hamilton #67 Colby #71 Wesleyan University #73 Grinnell #74 Vassar #77 Carleton #81 U Richmond #84 Macalester #86 Smith #87 Kenyon #88 Holy Cross #91 Pitzer #93 Lafayette #94 Bucknell #101 Colorado College #102 Scripps #107 Reed #108 Skidmore #117 Bryn Mawr #121 Trinity College #122 Union College Random schools: #142 Denison #170 Gettysburg #173 Connecticut College #176 Rhodes College #209 Oberlin #215 Franklin & Marshall What impressed me was that the top 3 ranked LACs (Harvey Mudd,Pomona, & Claremont McKenna) are in the same consortium on adjoining campuses. This construct resembles a university setting moreso than the usual LAC setting. |
Why you mad? This is a college forum, and these are good references for your initial college search. They are updated annually, and one was just updated. |
Thank you for posting this. A lot of people care. Prior to US News, selecting a college or university was little more than by "word-of-mouth" reputation. The first US News college rankings appeared in 1983. Looks as though only 13 schools were ranked--although I am not sure of this. 1983# US News rankings: 1) Stanford 2) Harvard 3) Yale 4) Princeton 5) UCal-Berkeley 6) Chicago 7) Michigan 8) Cornell 8) Illinois 10) MIT 10) Dartmouth 12) CalTech 13) Wisconsin |

| seems like a pretty reasonable list of the top 50 best schools in the USA IMO, though the order might be suspect. According to their methodology only the top 2.5% of institutions ranked get an A+ grade overall. That stops at #76. |
Why do you put those last few as “random”? Those are well known LACs |
Well I'm glad things changed. Is Illinois UIUC? |
They are random because they were not next in order on the list. I randomly selected well known schools that were not next just topoint out their Niche ranking. |
No, it is the University of Illinois Urbana-Champ. |
pretty sure that is what UIUC stands for |
This^. Not everyone is knowledgeable about colleges or can afford to/get freebies to visit every college, these lists fill a void. |
+1. No one credit niche for anything. It's USNWR that counts where UVA is 25 and no 4 of all publics in america. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/uva-6968 |
UVA people are weak with STEM subjects. |
Counts? For? |
