| Middle school, not Bethesda or rich area and ours have it for two subjects. MCPS is offering free tutoring so why not? |
My kids don’t have tutors because they haven’t needed them. If the time comes when they do, I would get them, either free through mcps or private depending on the circumstances. It’s not really a bragging right that zero kids have tutors in Silver Spring. Certainly some children could benefit from that support you claim they aren’t getting, while others do not need it at this time. Why does it matter whether other kids have tutors? If your child needs one, get one. If not, don’t. |
We get tutors for ours but we also insist that our children score far above the 99%. |
Didn't say we should exclude kids receiving outside tutoring, but you would want to rank them lower than someone platforming at a comparable level without tutoring. |
| My dyslexic kid had extensive tutoring because MCPS does not provide services (or maybe they do now but did not then). My magnet kid never had tutoring as she did fine without it...and had lots of other things to spend time on. I would much rather see kids (without issues) spending time learning an instrument and playing sports than doing extra math. |
Usually extra Math doesn't prevent a kid learning an instrument or taking up a sport. It's not a daily thing. |
I live in SS. Both my kids have tutors, and neither is struggling. About half the families I know do the same. |
Same here |
Tutors for which subject? Or just everything. What does the tutor do with them? Work ahead? How often do they do tutoring? |
What grade are your kids in? How long have they had tutors? |
I had reading tutors for my kids for grades 1 & 2. They had almost 0 individual reading instruction at school since they weren't struggling. One of my kids claimed their reading group only met once every two months. I felt this was necessary since the school is only interested in kids that are below grade level. |
I have noticed that too. More work is done on kids who are behind. |
We live down county and have two tutors. Why not? Mine are very good students but its always nice to have the support. |
