OP here. Our aftercare only goes until 5, which is no help because work later than that.

So when will you ever see your kid?

And this is helpful how? It is not. Instead of beating each other up, women should be helping and supporting one another. And pushing those in power to have more child and family friendly policies to support our families!

OP, whatever area college you are closest to (American U, NOVA CC, MC, U of MD and so many others), contact the career center and tell them what you need, the hours, and how much you are willing to pay. Maybe ask them what they think you need to pay. Kids are going back to school and you might get lucky. If not so lucky, try care.com, and again, hopefully get lucky.

I wish you luck!

This was hard to find. I put my kid in aftercare. You should find a new aftercare if yours ends at 5. I tried to find a part time person who would pick up, drive to activities, meal prep, etc and I couldn’t. I ended up staying home.

You are very perceptive! Perhaps you would like to give me money so I can see my kid? This is such a whole separate problem from my immediate need of someone to pick DC up, but thanks for raising it!

NP. What kind of bus are you thinking of getting?

Try to get a spot at a local daycare that picks up from the school. This is extremely late to be planning this, though, so you might not have any luck.

+1

Some of the larger day cares run after school programs and they might have later hours. You will have to call around but it’s pretty late so the spots might be full. Where are you located?

Is this for elementary school or preschool? I’ve never heard of an elementary school after care that only goes until 5pm instead of 6 pm.

Find a different aftercare. Look into TKD, gymnastics type places. Most are open until 6.

OP here, why would I get a full time nanny for an after school pickup?

Because its reqlly hard to find reliable part time help. Everyone wants this and doesnt want to pay out the nose but it diesnt exist. Who wpuld work for an hour a day (and also add their commute to your kids school etc) still during regular business hours?
