They are waived this year, but they cannot exceed the FCPS caps for this year. Non-Title 1 schools can exceed the FCPS class size caps, but cannot exceed the state cap sizes.

Kindergarten—State: 29 FCPS: 28
Grades 1-3–State: 30 FCPS: 27
Grades 4-6–State: 35 FCPS: 29

My DCs have definitely been in classes with 30 kids or more. One year it was 32.

Based on these numbers I think FCPS is now following state numbers.

My child's first grade last is 28 children (the list was posted at open house).

There are no special caps for Title 1 after 3rd grade.

So is there someone we can report the school to if they are over the cap?

The FCPS numbers are guidelines not rules. At both FCPS and the state level, they just add IAs or other support to the room. Do you know for sure that your DC’s class is over the state cap with no IA support assigned?

Been teaching nearly 30 years, I have never seen a class size maximum be required to be followed. They simply are not. I'm not saying all classes are over max. But when there's more kids than staff, max's get ignored. No TA's provided.

So far no one has reported any numbers over the state caps. The state cap for K-3 is 30 and for 4-6 is 35.

If you start at 27, you will be 30 by Christmas.
