100% disabled (limited mobility, end-stage lung disease) SAH mother.
I wake up, drink coffee, take my teenager to work if he's scheduled to work, hang out with my fiancé when he is not working, play the piano, work around the house, read, research my subjects of interest (which are many), listen to music. I live a full, happy life. I worked 100 hrs/wk (mostly in Management) for years before I had to file for disability. My job now is to stay alive, and to try and stay out of a wheelchair and off oxygen as long as possible. My lung disease was caused by untreated asthma during my childhood. My lungs were scarred by the time I was 18. I am 50 now. My limited mobility is caused by a rapidly-progressing genetic condition. You never know what's going to throw a wrench in your plans. Gotta enjoy life however you can, and never take a moment of it for granted. |

I am amazed how early you all get up.
Wake up at 8 just in time for first daily meeting at 8:30. (Sometimes it is actually 8:20) After meeting comes coffee, breakfast, brushing teeth, makeup. Back to the computer to write some code. Make lunch and prep/plan dinner. Walk the dog. (DH walks it in the morning) Back to the computer and write more code. School pickup (DH handles morning drop off) After school activities (soccer, swimming etc, based on the day of the week) Dinner and family time Clean up Netflix/TV/reading In bed by 12:00 Software Engineer. PS while writing code I take mini breaks for laundry and other house keeping |

I’m a Police Dispatcher. I work rotating days 6am-6pm.
I made my lunch and dinner the night before while I’m making dinner. Alarm goes off at 5, shower get dressed, make coffee, grab meals out of fridge, leave the house at 530, get to work 555. At work I can peruse the internet, read, whatever as long as it’s not busy. So right now I’m at work perusing dcum. It’s usually quiet until around 9. I get a 1 hour paid lunch break and usually run errands. I eat breakfast lunch and dinner at work. I either get home at 630 or pick up DD from her activity depending on what day of the week it is and get home at 7. If I work the next day I make lunch and dinner again, make DDs lunch for school/camp and her dinner to eat with the sitter. DD has a shower, gets ready for next day, I read to her, she’s in bed between 8-815. I watch a show for an hood or so then go to bed 9/930. |
NP but similar sounding nonprofit role. Mine are external and internal and mostly pre scheduled. I often work for an hour between 6-7am, end at 5:30, and lately have been working 8:30-10pm as well. It’s rough. |
Blech…everything I say on this site always comes off as so snarky. I’m the one who asked what the calls were about. I see how it came off as accusing the pp of lying about how hard she is working. I’m genuinely curious what they are about. I’ve never worked for a nonprofit or known anyone who has worked for one. |
| I work remotely in an analytic role at a big financial institution. I have a 5yo and my husband works from home as well. We get up at 8am and get DD to preschool around 9am. My job is more or less 40 hours/week and it’s primarily individual contributor, although I do have some managerial responsibilities. I pick DD up at about 5:30pm and go into dinner/playtime/etc. She goes to bed at about 8pm. After that, it’s cleaning the kitchen, watching TV, playing music, etc. |
I am so sorry that you’re going through this, and am amazed at how well you’re handling it. What treatments/activities do you do to slow progression? Can you exercise? |

Wake up 6:30am. Get things started in kitchen 6:45am start rousing everyone else. Prep breakfast 7:30am kids off to school, have my own breakfast 8:00am check emails & schedule for the day 8:30am shower, dress. 9:00am typical start work WFH. If going in, everything’s a little earlier… Day usually consists of between 2 and 8 hours of Teams/Zoom/WebEx meetings Lots of reading/listening to status from others on what they’ve done and what their problems are. Around a hundred emails throughout the day. Drafting Word documents, signing things. Excel spreadsheets. PowerPoint. Somewhere in here bring some lunch to the standing desk. Eat it between meetings (or sometimes w/camera off) Reviewing proposals, evaluations, etc. Try to figure out where money (or something) will make good things happen. Sometimes strategically, usually tactically. 6:30pm Back to the kitchen to get dinner things prepared. We do always have dinner together as a family! 8:00pm Catch up on news, social media, DCUM, etc. Also some work email with people on West Coast time, so they don't have to wait overnight. 9:00pm Household chores. Laundry. Dishes. Planning weekends etc. Personal email. General adulting. 10:30pm Upstairs, often reading. Sometimes Netflix-style entertainment, sometimes online coursework. 12:00pm approximate lights out. |

Executive Director of mid sized non profit ($10M budget); works with higher education.
Summer schedule is more relaxed - 8am-4/5pm; school year it is 8am-6/7pm. Right now - wake up at 7:30am, at the office by 8am (short commute). I have weekly check-ins with my 6 direct reports and a weekly team meeting. Other than that - lots of email and leadership meetings spent the higher Ed campus we serve. Reviewing contracts/signing paperwork/review budgets and budget creation (depending on time of year); a lot of time devoted to working with the board of directors. This coming weekend I have an offsite Board retreat. Tons of meetings and getting appraised of programs. Leave work between 4-7pm, depending on time of year. Home - have one kiddo. But spouse works from home so does the bulk of kid drop-off/pick-up and doctor appointments. Spouse does all cooking and we have weekly house-cleaners. So, by the time I get home it’s just eat/family time/TV/ reading. I want to make time to workout again. In prior job, it was easy to workout during work-day. Can’t really do that now. But hope to transition to w hybrid job in the next few years to have more exercise time. |

Wake up at 6:50, shower, dress, eat breakfast, etc. Leave house just before 8:00 and it’s about 4 minutes to the building.
8:00 Stop at copier/printer and print the papers I sent from home the night before (hopefully any line is short), check my mailbox, drop off my lunch in the refrigerator, turn on set up laptop, quick check of email, and anything else to get ready for the day. 8:30 Greet students as they start to come back to the room. 8:45 bell rings. Get students settled, project morning news show, take and submit attendance. 9:00-9:20. Morning Meeting 9:20-9:30 Math sense making routine. 9:30-9:45 Math focus lesson. 9:45-10:15 Math workshop, meet with small groups while monitoring behaviors of those not in small group. 10:15-10:45 Intervention group while monitoring behavior of those not in the group. 10:45-11:30 Writing focus lesson, Writer’s Workshop 11:30-12:00. Take students to recess. Leave lunches lined up in hall, go back in a little early so that we aren’t late for lunch, stop at classroom to pick up lunches, quick wash of hands or hand sanitizer. Line back up to walk to cafeteria. Wait for other grade level to fully exit before entering (hopefully by 12:02). 12:02 Stop and use the restroom. Here I have to be strategic. If my lunch needs warmed up I put it into the microwave (hopefully any line is short) and then head to the adult restroom while the lunch heats. Prepare for the adult restrooms to all be utilized and watch for an opening while also watching my lunch. 12:28 Finish up lunch and head to cafeteria to pick up students. Get students lined up and exited by 12:30. 12:30-1:30. Reading focus lesson and Workshop 1:30-2:30 Walk student to their specials class. This is my planning period (Meetings on Tuesday and Thursday. Pick up students at the end of this block. 2:30-3:25 Science or social studies. Then prepare for dismissal at 3:30 3:30-4:15. Straighten up the classroom and reorganize from the day. Sort student work to take home. Check Outlook and return any emails or on occasion phone calls if needed. Try to leave between 4 and 4:30. Sometime in the 8:00-9:00 pm timeframe sit down and do any of the following: Plan for the next day, grade student work, reply to emails, enter data, make anecdotal notes. Stop by 11:00 p.m. (Avoid doing this Friday night and Saturday, but choose about 2 hours to do the same on Sunday). Teacher, Grade 3. |

Typical, non court day, usually working from home: 7:00 - wake & take the dog out & hit the gym 9-1:30 - working, which usually consists of processing devices & exploring data, writing reports, meetings, phone calls 1:30-3:30 - lunch, errands, take the dog out for a very long walk 4-7 - more work & this is usually when I have my west coast calls and meetings If I'm in the office, the day is much more traditional: 7 - wake, run/walk with the dog, get ready for the day & drop the dog at daycare 9-1 - in the office working 1-2 - lunch 2-6 - more working Court day: 9 - report to court by this time and then begin to sit & wait for my turn Then when court is done, I have to do a debriefing report and that's usually all I do for the day. |

Typical Work Day: 7:15 wake and morning stuff 7:45-8:15 commute 8:15-8:45 prep for the day; check email 8:45-9:15 hall duty (stand in hall, greet kids grades K-2 with smiles and hugs and reminders to pull up their masks) 9:15-9:25 more prep for lessons as needed (5 min to walk to and from each classroom to gather kids) 9:30-9:55 Grade 2 ESOL (lower) (Teach lesson, supervise activity, try to grade or assess on the fly. repeat for all classes) 10:00-10:25 Grade 1 ESOL (lower) 10:30-10:55 Grade 1 ESOL (higher) 11:00-11:25 Grade 2 ESOL (higher) 11:30-11:55 Grade 3 ESOL (higher) 12:00-12:30 LUNCH DUTY (supervise Grade 2 in lunch) 12:35-12:59 Grade 3 ESOL (newcomer) 1:00-1:29 MY LUNCH (microwave, eat, rinse dishes and repack in my bag. Bathroom break) 1:30-1:55 Grade 4 ESOL (lower + higher) 2:00 - 2:25 Grade 5 ESOL + Grade 4 ESOL (lower - extra time) 2:30-3:14 My planning. Sit at desk, drink water. Score rubrics, enter grades, update lesson plans, use copy machine, set up lessons. Complete any necessary paperwork. Call or email parents. 3:15- 3:45ish. DISMISSAL HALL DUTY If students are all gone by 3:30 I can also use that time for planning, calling parents, paperwork. I am always out the door by 3:45. I do not ever bring work or grading home. If it doesn't get done between 8:15 and 3:45 it doesn't get done. 3:45-4:30. Often errands or grocery shopping. 5:00 home. Care for disabled family member; household chores like laundry or kitchen clean up, recycling etc. 7 PM dinner and clean up 8 PM help disabled family member get to bed. 8:30 - whenever -- Netflix, read, bed |
