I loved the Against the Odds podcast on this; very much looking forward to the movie! Very glad to see everyone seems to like it!

It was good, you could get a sense of how claustrophobic and dark it was and how the Thai Navy Seal got into trouble (died).

I didn't realize the significance of the water engineer leading all of those people in diverting water away from above, how crucial that was. I remember a lot of other parts of the rescue but that was interesting and so necessary.

^While Natisri’s team was blocking sinkholes outside the cave, inside the cave a team of hydrologists and drillers pumped out groundwater and diverted streams, removing some 420,000 gallons PER HOUR from the cave.

There was so much selflessness and unsung heroes in this story - not the movie nor one documentary seems to be able to capture it all.
Still cannot believe those boys were rescued - truly against all odds.
The ONLY ego and point of contention (people disagreed, but they came to consensus and supported each other) I've read about was musk.

Watched today and was blown away by the challenges faced in getting the boys out and the incredible selfless work of so many to rescue them.

I watched the news when it happened but never understood the complexities involved.

Also just watched the Nat Geo special “The Rescue”. Both movies were incredible.

Yes, documentary provides a lot of details. I went back a watched a podcast of Dr Harry. Skill blown away by this humble nature, how seriously he took his role, appreciating the sheer gravity of his decision. He gives great background about the reasons this would never work and the reasons why it was worth giving it a go.

nor his “pedo” texts, baseless, of course, against a volunteer cave dive expert! he’s such a colossal ass.

+1. This was when I first realized what an awful person Elon Musk is. That poor rescuer that he maligned…the guy risks his life to save a dozen kids and Elon Musk defames him and calls him a pedophile

Not that this makes what Musk said any better but it wasn’t about the actual guys who pulled off the rescue. It was about the man Vern, who I believe was an Englishman living in Thailand (can’t remember his last name) who knew the cave inside and out. He was the one who suggested the divers who actually pulled it off. But he did not partake in the rescue himself. He was a caver but not a cave diver.

I think it may have been purely on the basis that he was a westerner living in thailand.

You may be right. I never even thought about that but I think this may be it.

The guy did end up suing Musk for defamation but I don’t know what ever happened with that.

Why did Elon call him a pedo?

At the defamation trial, musk (successfully) argued that "pedo" was a common term in S Africa when he was growing up, that it was just a "joke" and that he deleted the tweet; "it was not a bomb" his lawyer argued. I haven't read Vern's case -- except for the shockingly bad memory that his lawyer was the ineffective, since disbarred Lin Wood.

There is a book written for middle graders called All Thirteen by Christina Soontornvat that is really well done. I read it with a group of kids ages 9-12 and they loved it. I followed the rescue on a very basic level when it was happening. The book was fascinating. I can't wait to watch the movie. That rescue was nothing short of miraculous.

Because he was pouting that no one wanted to use his idea.
