Portable CO2 monitor for renting vacation home

I did too. Used it overseas where they don’t have the same requirements the US has.

Because of this post and the horrible post about the two sisters that died in the fire, I purchased a CO2 monitor for upcoming trip. I went back and looked at the Airbnb listing and it said the home does not have a CO2 monitor. $20 on Amazon delivered the same day will give me peace of mind!

Also, how concerned are you about the smoke detectors in a rental? Can I assume they've been checked and batteries replaced, or should I bring my own as well?

OP, you should be extremely concerned here. Most smoke and CO detectors in vacation rentals also include hidden surveillance cameras, including the ones mounted in bedrooms and other private areas. Always inspect and verify! This is more of a problem than not having them at all, as it turns out. DH found some at a place we stayed at in Rehoboth last week. Homeowners denied it and claimed it must have been installed by a previous renter. A police investigation is still pending.

Y'all need to rent places that are licensed.

If you are concerned, OP - yes, take one with you. NBD.

Would you need a CO detector for a rental that is all electric?

Shouldn't anything listed on VRBO and AirBnB be licensed?

I don't know if it is all electric - water heater, stove? I don't know if they're gas or electric.

I would rather have one just in case. You can find them at Home Depot or similar stores.

"Just in case" is such an unhealthy mindset.

Outside sources eg neighbors using grills, generators. Overseas rentals where regulations are different or nonexistent.

Tell that to the people that died at Sandals recently.
