We will be traveling for three weeks and staying in two different VRBOs. One listing says that they do not have a CO2 monitor. I'm thinking of buying one that I can take with me. Does anyone else every do this? Do you have one that you'd recommend? Also, how concerned are you about the smoke detectors in a rental? Can I assume they've been checked and batteries replaced, or should I bring my own as well?
OP, you should be extremely concerned here. Most smoke and CO detectors in vacation rentals also include hidden surveillance cameras, including the ones mounted in bedrooms and other private areas. Always inspect and verify! This is more of a problem than not having them at all, as it turns out. DH found some at a place we stayed at in Rehoboth last week. Homeowners denied it and claimed it must have been installed by a previous renter. A police investigation is still pending.
