OP’s question is unintelligible |
If you are choosing the parking spot, these scenarios are within your control. If it’s the only spot left or someone parked next to you and parked too close, then that’s different. |
| Yes. And sometimes (often) it's necessary because of how close cars park. |
|
Sometimes, especially if the cars are extremely close together and there is no other way for me to leave the door open.
It became a more frequent occurrence once I had a kid because I am so often short on hands when get into or out of the car. Like how am I supposed to load a kid into a carseat if the next car is too close for my door to hang open without touching? I can't. So yes, I gently rest it on the next car while I do what I need to do and then gently pull it back off the car to close it. I don't really see what the alternative is. |
| This is why I park in two spaces at the back of the lot. If someone gets anywhere near my truck, I can't open the doors without hitting them. |
Yes, for sure. I also find some parking spaces are ridiculously narrow, too. [OP] |
This isn't a parking space problem. Your car is too big, or it's user error. I'm somewhat anal about parking well, but it's super rude to let your car door hit another. If you want to send a crappy parker a message, pull in their mirror and/or pull up their windshield wipers. No need to ding someone. |
OP isn’t advocating to ding someone’s car. |
No, but other people in this thread are. |
I wouldn’t say I swing it hard, but I make no effort to stop it if it’s so close to my car I have to slide in leg first because they are so close. Otherwise, yes I absolutely make an effort to not touch the other car. Wind happens, but rarely |
Does anyone ever get pissed at you for doing that? 🤣🤣 [OP] |
Great - then direct your comment to those who advocated for that. Not the person who doesn’t ding cars. |
| Yes I place it on the other car if it is too close because trying to control the door with too little room is more likely to ding the other car. |
Disagree. Natural consequences do not result in letters on windshields, they result in dings. If that rule is good enough for my kids, it’s good enough for bad/inconsiderate parkers. I’m not saying slam into it, but I’ve got no problem with my door touching theirs if it’s the only way I can normally get into my car. |
| Yes I do this. Except I press it lightly initially to avoid any noise and then I mash the sh$t out of that thing. Just gouge that edge right in there. Not maliciously, mind you. But I am husky and sometimes there just isn’t room without stuffing that girth hard as possible against the door. Ever seen an octopus squeeze through like a 2-inch pipe or whatever? That’s me at the Safeway. |
