UVA won’t be found anywhere near the top on this listing. It seems accurate to me.

More accurate than the other ridiculous one. I think the other USNWR ranking was concocted to appeal to those who are obsessed with LACs and mediocre privates pretending to be elite schools (e.g. Rice, Vanderbilt, ND, WashU etc.). There will be plenty of " only look at the undergraduate programs etc. non-sense arguments to try to boost these smaller type of institutions.

Except these aren’t merely “arguments” when your kid can’t get admitted to these “pretender” elite schools. But go ahead and instead have your kids apply to those schools on this list where most applicants get admitted, congratulate them on their subsequent matriculation to a truly “elite school,” and pat yourself on the back for such savvy parenting.

So tired of posters boosting up no name LACs since their kids only managed to get into barely recognized LACs. Research and graduate programs counts, Nobel, Turing, Fields, Pulitzer etc. all counts as well.

Mom and dad have to have some positivity in their lives, let's just all agree to give them their props and go on with our lives even when their kid is at some no name school that is smaller than a high school in the middle of nowhere.

Your LACs (low admission criteria colleges) are not on them?

Agree.

LAC boosters seem to have an inferiority complex that causes them to insult those who express opinions which differ from their own. I think SLACs offer a great education, but I prefer a larger more diverse environment. Different strokes for different folks. What is a great fit for one may not be for another. I am constantly bewildered by LAC zealots refusal to acknowledge almost any benefit of attending a large university.

LACs tend to extend high school into a higher level in a similar environment. Large universities require a substantial adjustment from high school. Both types of schools offer great educational opportunities.

All I know is my kids aren’t going to any of these so these lists are totally worthless to me.

But your statement while level headed and filled with common sense will be viewed negatively, weird.

Aren't they stoking your FOMO and status anxieties though? That's gotta be worth something.
