Censorship in the religion forum?

There are two separate and distinct threads about not believing in God now. One asks why posters don’t believe in God. The newest one asks for posters to celebrate that God doesn’t exist. Nothing like openly stating that God doesn’t exist and insulting and denigrating everyone who does believe in God.

Can’t you just avoid that thread? In the same way you want non-believers to stay out of the threads for people who do believe?

non-believers do not stay out of threads for believers, at all. they argue every single thread that religious people are evil, stupid, don’t believe in science, are racist, bigoted, and ignorant.

So report those posts, and they’ll be removed. But agnostics and atheists should have a space to talk about their beliefs as well.

DP. Lol, if every one of those religion-bashing posts were reported, Jeff wouldn’t have time for anything else. For example, the new celebrating atheism thread kicks off by calling religion “bronze-age myths.”

I’m happy for atheists to have a place to celebrate their non-belief. And TBH I don’t care what that particular OP has to say about anything. But we need to acknowledge the scale of the religion-bashing issue.

Sure sounds like you care. Doesn’t sound like you want atheists to be able to speak their mind without censorship.

I’m a different poster and I care, and I will tell you why. It doesn’t add anything to the forum to continually bash a certain group of people and insult them, which is what the atheists on the religion forum do and have done for many years. I simply don’t post anything on that forum or the political discussion forum because they are both basically useless and depressing to read. Pre-pandemic DCUM as a whole was a lot more fun, it was snarky but sometimes very funny and full of good advice and now reading it can be a slog because much of it has taken on that same desperate immaturity. I have a close atheist friend that I discuss religion with a lot and he manages to talk with me about it without telling me I’m stupid or that religion is for stupid people so I’m sure the posters on the religion forum can do the same.

PP. If you’re accusing me of lying, well so be it. I do think atheists should have their own threads. However, I have absolutely no interest in anything that particular atheist OP has to say, especially about religion. There are other atheists here who are capable of conducting mature, non-abusive discussions, and I’m happy to interact with them.

In the past few years there have been an influx of troll posters, both religious and atheist. I am an atheist who used to participate regularly in threads about 4-5 years back, but I have largely stopped.

Are we also acknowledging the atheist haters?

The ones who starts threads to antagonize atheists?

Atheists in the religion forum don’t declare they personally don’t believe in God; they say there is no God. That takes away the right of believers to express belief in God in the forum. They aggressively ask for proof and evidence of God, despite being told over and over science has no tools or tests via scientific research or method that can prove or disprove God. They say people who believe in God are schizophrenic, bi-polar, or mentally ill, if not completely ignorant and brainwashed and uneducated. They do not allow people posting in that forum to express belief with be challenged repeatedly or insulted repeatedly.

They have made it a personal challenge to disrupt the forum, as clearly shown in the thread the op gave simple thanks for an answered prayer. In the words of the mod/owner, they piss all over anyone who believes in God.

I think bashing goes both ways. I don't understand why the religion form is open only to believers though. It seems to me anything related to religion including but not limited to existance of gods should be allowed.

And religious people declare that there is a God. Many religious people declare that atheists will be tortured for all eternity for failing to believe in their God.

You have some decent points here, but "they're claiming that their way is the only true way!!" isn't one of them.

The only people declaring that atheists will be “tortured” for eternity are atheist. I’ve never seen a religious person try to convert an atheist in that forum or threaten them in any way. Religious people often sat their religion doesn’t believe that and are ignored.
