Never ending ballot counts.

That’s nice. Without knowing where you grew up, I’ll guess that there were probably a smaller number of ballots to be counted, and/or that the elections weren’t close, so that the results were “known” even though all of the ballots weren’t actually counted yet.

I'm open to being way off base but it's been 1 week since the elections so that's why I think it's taking a long time. Are other jurisdictions with similar demographics and populations finished counting ballots?

Exactly. Hogan really screwed things up by not letting dems start counting mail in ballots before the election, so they’d know how many votes they needed to come up with on the final count to ensure the preferred candidates all won their primaries.

He could have let them start counting after polls closed, rather than having to wait til *Thursday.*

Also, they can’t start counting provisional ballots with certain Reason codes until they have waited long enough to be sure a mail in ballot wasn’t received (for those who requested mail in ballots but for some reason decided to vote in person instead). I don’t think that can start until Friday. And there may be enough of those to make a difference in the close races.

Oh bummer. That's why I had to vote provisionally. I was hoping to see my status change sometime on Wednesday. Thanks for posting. Now I won't freak out if I don't see it until they start counting Friday's ballots.

We can send rockets to outer space, build multi million dollar aircraft carriers, spend trillions for government programs but we can’t, just can’t find a way to digitally snap ballots or implement or more transparent voter accounting system than having volunteers hand count ballots for 8 hrs a day. Hmmmmm wonder why that is

Mail-in ballots weren't a thing when you were growing up.

Actually they were, different pp here, but I lived in a state where they started counting them right after the cast ballots.

But if they did that, they couldn’t see how much they wanted to make up to get their chosen candidate in

There is a rapid erosion of trust in government - both on the left and right - so having members of the community from both main parties do the counting helps shore up what little trust there is. There is a reason civilians in the Phillipines, Venezuela, and Egypt are not counting votes.

I wonder how many provisional ballots are from people who voted in person because the mail in ballots were late coming. That's what I ended up doing.

It looks like there was no change in the numbers after last night's update. Did they not count ballots yesterday?

Would they start counting mail-in and drop-box ballots at 8 PM on a Tuesday night even if they could when they still need to tabulate early and Election Day votes? And to be clear, they did not even report all precincts on Tuesday night of the votes they did tabulate. And they still need to audit those votes on Wednesday. So it’s a complaint without merit.
