Me too. And I have no problem with supporting a black candidate. I have donated to many, including Harris’s presidential run. I am just afraid he can’t go the distance due to misrepresentations and lies. |
|
I can’t find information about the misrepresentation and lies Would somebody link or be able to give a neutral explanation?
Though at this point it doesn’t matter because I’m not voting for Dan Cox. So it’s Moore or bust. |
I’m with you. I’m going to support him. It’s just causing me heartburn. One issue is that he represented that he grew up in Baltimore but really it was nice Maryland suburbs. |
Here’s a CNN article breaking it down: https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/13/politics/wes-moore-baltimore-origin-story-campaign-governor-maryland/index.html |
He tried to sell his book then so a sad city story sells better than a boring suburban story. If he thought he will running for public office then, he could be more careful. Its not a character disaster. I think it is same as women wearing make up everyday. |
Misrepresenting where you came from, and by misrepresenting I mean sometimes outright lying when saying he was “from” Baltimore, is the same as a woman wearing makeup?! Misogyny at its finest. |
| If he was so invested in Baltimore as part of his life story, why didn't he run for mayor of Baltimore? |
Thanks for the link. That story was brutal and unfortunately way more serious than I thought because he let the lie perpetuate. Which brings to mind, what else is he lying about and questions about his character. I voted for Franchot because I thought he had good qualifications to be governor and also because I thought he would be a sure overall winner. Moore/Cox might be tighter than I like although I really hope people don’t support a Trump backed candidate. |
| Bias related to his lack of executive experience? True. |
| If that’s why you can’t vote for Moore then you see simply reinforcing the biggest issue with the D party. The party loves to sbmnwct defeat from the jaws of victory and continues to perpetuate values signaling to their own demise. Nothing in that article gives me pause about Moore as a candidate or eventual Governor of the State of MD. |
Look, I agree that the Republicans have a way of shrugging off much bigger scandals. But the Democrats aren't Republicans and I would argue the problem is the leadership that freaks out at the slightest hint of impropriety, and the voters follow that. The Democrats are terrible politicians. I was just watching a commencement speech given by Moore. He himself talks in that speech about lying about his major to stave off annoying questions. Which, again, by itself NBD. In the context of other things I've read about him, it just adds to a narrative that he is a habitual liar. Compared with Cox, of course I will vote for Moore. I hope the lying is all harmless, but who knows what will come out in the next few months, or assuming he gets elected, the next few years. |
Expecting integrity and honesty from a candidate is not “values signaling.” We all make mistakes in life and I can accept that candidates are human, but when I see repeated red flags of dishonesty, it is absolutely going to cause me to pause. I felt the same way with Biden at first, considering his repeated allegations of plagiarism. I voted for him, as I will Moore, but it will absolutely be with reservation. I value honesty. |
| At the end of the day politicians being dishonest or misrepresenting things to make themselves look better isn’t that unusual or devastating. I would just rather that it was otherwise given he’ll be up against a Trumper. |
| I chose to vote for Moore because Perez was an absolute disaster as chair of the dnc. Sometimes experience shows a candidate doesn’t have the goods. |
I didn’t vote for Perez either but while he was DNC chair the Democrats gained back control of the House, the Presidency, and the Senate. Really not sure how anyone could call that an “absolute disaster.” |
