Dinner party for 6, help pick the menu! what would you be most excited about?

Prime rib and have some horseradish on the side!

Prime rib and mashed potatoes is the option that's going to make most meat eaters happy. My second choice would be short ribs (what happens to the pomegranate seeds, are they just in there and crunchy?) but I hate polenta for some reason. Crab legs are messy and Lasagna isn't going to feel fancy if that's what you're going for.

Crab legs

Short ribs as long as they cooked properly and fork tender

Yes, while not complicated, they are fairly labor intensive. I would not serve if it is a new recipe or I would do a trial run. Many people would prefer mashed potatoes over polenta.

I’d switch 2 and 3

I agree with this adjusted ranking

I want the prime rib and polenta. The short ribs are prob great but the pomegranate is throwing me off.

+1 — These all sound heavy and unappealing for a summer dinner party. Also, a bit old-fashioned — like “Continental Cuisine”. Maybe you’re going for a retro feel?

What season is this for? Hopefully not soon. The only thing that sounds palatable to me is the short ribs, but not in summertime.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw this list. These dishes are all so winter-y!

How about instead of:

Prime Rib + Truffled Mashed Potatoes - Grilled rib-eyes (or lamb chops) with chimichurri + greek lemon potatoes

Pomegranate Short Ribs with Marscapone Polenta - Braised lamb shanks with eggplant or greenbeans

Crab Legs and Tarragon Butter and Garlic Broccolini - Whole grilled or roast fish + broccolini

Traditional Bolognese Lasagna with Bechamel - Pasta with lemon and crab

I also wouldn't "start" with a salad, I would serve the salad alongside the main meal. A dinner party should feel more homey than dinner at a fusty hotel.

2nd weekend in October
All of them are recipes I have mastered that’s why they are somewhat traditional. I don’t like to make things I haven’t done before for other people!

Crab legs are too messy. No lasagna in the summer.

I like all hte alternatives PP has posted here, and, if the party is in October, you've got plenty of time to try these recipes out. My favorite would be braised lamb shanks -- with green beans or Brussels sprouts.
