This is DCUM. No one is well liked or respected by many people in any system

Each new superintendent cleans house.

You can fire people every year if you want, it's just going to make MCPS much less attractive to any top tier candidates.

New candidates will be an improvement over what we have seen during past year. Teachers are quitting, students are frustrated no support from central office. There is too much drama and no substance.

I know! I'd heard the karen's are driving off the best teachers.

The teachers I know are leaving because they are unhappy with the work conditions - no substitutes, forced to cover other classes during planning periods, impact of COVID on health and child care options, low pay, long commutes, and safety concerns.

The silver lining is that at least there are now three bridesmaids waiting in the wings as replacements.

Who are they?

We're lucky to have so many experienced leaders!

The ones I know are mostly staying but the few that left did so because of the constant complaints from the Karens.

MCPS is not perfect

We had three years of confusion because of a global pandemic.

You can complain all you want but I had many kids go through MCPS and privates in the area believe me the education they received was heads and tails better than any red state. Move if you don't like it.

Youngin is going to Betsey DeVos VA god help them.

And if MD goes red at all god help us as well.

Before I move I think I'll cast my ballot to vote out the current board and hopefully get in someone who will fire McKnight!

One or more people keep posting about “Karens” driving out teachers. I hate that terms and I feel like the person is trying to stir up sh-t, but are parental complaints really that big a deal? The parents in my school are so grateful and deferential to teachers (rightfully) — the only thing I hear complaints about is teachers that don’t follow IEP/504 or when the teachers don’t know how to use canvass so assignments aren’t posted properly. But even that is pretty tempered and more in the vein of “can you give Larlo extr time on this assignment since it wasn’t posted properly?”
The curriculum changes, lack of planning periods and pressure not to take vacation/sick because no subs is what I hear as the major complaints.
Plus the usual exhaustion factor and it seems younger workers are just not looking for jobs that are so difficult.

I think you don't get it. I think that MCPS leadership needs a narrative of who or what to blame for issues, since they never do anything wrong.

McKnight got two no-confidence votes from the MCEA before officially taking the position and there have been a boatload of negative news articles written about how MCPS didn't listen to teacher complaints about subs, staffing, covid, school safety, etc. I'm sure there were parent irritations, but I doubt it would be enough to make a teacher quit the profession, unless it was SRO / safety-related?

Last year MCPS blamed covid for everything, but the MCPS Central Office can't do that anymore since their grand poobah McKnight said covid was a non-issue and had everyone in-person (even though MCPS called for the national guard, teacher and kids were out sick, etc.). They can't blame anyone at MCPS, so who's left to blame so that their hands look clean?

Lightbulb on? Now do you get it?

Oh, and I think it's only two people. They use the same phrases over and over again.

That’s not making me feel any better.
Having two losers running the schools might be even worse.

Ugh - why can’t we do better than these idiots?

None of the reasons they've stated for disliking her add up. Wonder what their real reason for this obsession is...

We in Berkeley County weren’t impressed with him either. Rumor has it that he was told to retire or be terminated.
