20 year olds can't rent a hotel room?

We just have our kids download the Hilton app and login as us. It’s contactless and they use a digital key.
We’ve had to do it a handful of times when they got Covid in college, missed flights etc.

You are a genius! This is awesome.

Now try to rent a car.

Call the hotel and ask them to send you a credit card authorization form, which you fill out and send back. We have done this many times - it’s common when traveling to sports tournaments where a player is being chaperoned by another family but is staying in their own room.

As an example of calling --- My DD's college roommate got the flu and I called a local hotel. She was 20 and the hotel mgt said ok.

It’s up to the owner. Ours is 25+.

Bizarre. My husband was a military officer at 22, and you think he's going to tear up your trashy rental? Mmkay.

We're going on a road trip next week. We're getting 2 rooms for us and the kids. I did notice that some hotels were ages 21+ and others were 18+ for room reservations.

Stay at a hostel.

Agree. Before the age 25 I had graduated college, married (to another college graduate and military officer) owned my own house, and had a baby!

Hilton app poster back with another tip I learned from kids in college. If you have USAA insurance, you can rent at 18 years old. It has sometimes been a hassle but that was the only way we were able to rent a car. If you have any other insurance, good luck.

Hostels aren't very common in the US.

Same issue with renting cars. I remember as a first year lawyer being sent out of town (pre-Uber era) and having to explain that I couldn't get to the destination since I couldn't rent a car. Annoying.

How many hostels are there in the US?

We’ve had success calling Marriott directly as Bonvoy members. DS and friends were 19 at the time.

Wow. You can vote, die for your country, drive and get married... but can't book a hotel room. Seems backward.
