NP - do you have kids? I love to travel in September but I hesitate to have the kids miss a whole week of school just as they're starting to get into a routine.

Also, has anyone been to Greece in November? I'm thinking of going over Thanksgiving break, but I know it will be cooler and some places might be closed by then.

Nope, I do not have kids.

I have friends who went around Thanksgiving. They had a nice time but went on and on about everything being closed up outside of Athens. They too didn’t have kids, but we’re celebrating their honeymoon and really wanted to go right after the wedding. Seemed to regret that choice.

Yep. We went the first two weeks of September last year; one of our guides said that by early October, everything on the islands is shut down.

Wtf would you take kids this young to Greece? Or wait until the youngest is in middle school. I would leave them with a sitter and just have an amazing trip with your partner.

Hydra. you’re welcome

I never understand posts like this. We always take our children with us when we travel. Why would you leave your children at home?

I mean, my parents took me on big trips from when I was a tiny infant, but I don’t truly remember any of them until I was 7 at the earliest. It’s for you, not them, really. You’re not absorbing culture as a 4 year old on a two week trip to Greece.

DP but the main reason I bring my kids is I don’t want to give up spending time with my kids or traveling. Sure traveling with kids is different but it has it’s own rewards— finding playgrounds in foreign countries, or locals doting on small children. I know my kids won’t necessarily have memories but we will. I’m not bringing them so they will “absorb the culture” (although I do think if you travel frequently with them they will be better travelers overall).

NP. Can you please share your itinerary? DH and I just booked 13 days in September (similar flight), but I am so lost on what to do there.

Has an authentic feel and tons of traditional Greek restaurants. Santorini was gorgeous but a big cruise destination and this tiny island town is overrun with cruisers who seem to be impatient.

Can you please share the can’t misses of Crete? We may also stay near Chania, at least for a few days.

Yes I would love to hear it too! How many days for Athens? Did you fly to the islands or ferry?

Op here. Leaning towards going to Greece for spring break next year.

Will shops on the islands be open in April?

Check out Naxos. Lower key island, great for families.

Exactly - I lived in Germany from 2 - 5 and barely remember one thing. I remember what I see in pictures but do I??

My oldest child is 13. I don't think he is too young at all. He loves history and greek mythology. Greece was his pick.
