So I talk about going to work and doing regular chores. I may mention that we had something for dinner they don't like since they're not home. I remember from my camp days that its not so much what my parents said but the fact that I got a letter that made the difference.

I still remember my father writing "we're having so much without you!" in a letter to me at camp and then I guess my mother told him that the camp said not to do that, so he CROSSED IT OUT and sent it anyway. It was only a very short camp so I thought it was funny, but it has stuck with me all these years.

That's pretty funny

if you still get a newspaper delivery, you can cut out a funny comic and send...my in-laws still do that for my husband and we appreciate it.

Between longer cards, send a generic greeting card- there are cute ones that have no words, or a basic greeting. Throw a dollar in the card- kids always love money. And a simple - Love, Mom. If there are siblings, they can do the same and draw a picture to include in a card.

If they like puzzles, print off a sodoku or maze or crossword to include. Simple message- Thought you would like this- Love, Mom

Basically, as a kid, you love mail. Long or short- it is all great. No need to write a whole novel. A cute card, a thoughtful picture, like someone else said- a funny comic that would give them a laugh- all this is perfect and shows you care but is minimal work. You could even prep several of these to have ready throughout the summer for the days where you are busy or just don't have much to share.

I sent our kids each a letter from the family dog, complete with photos...they loved them and said they put them up by their beds at camp!

lol OP I could have written the exact thing. I just sent my daughter a letter yesterday and it was so boring. I basically gave a run down of our weekend. I'm out of things to say! I'll send one from the dog. That's a good idea
