Letters to camp - I'm out of things to say

Anonymous
Kids have been at camp before and I've sent them care packages and comics. I usually try to write them every day or every other day...but I am so uninspired this year. I have no news! We work, the dog is fine... that's it.

Give me ideas of what to put in my letters to camp!

Jokes, riddles, fun facts. Go 1001 Nights and find an interesting story and string it out into installments.

write about the weather, your garden, any news about relatives. Or absent that, any news in the news--my kids (not camp age yet) love random news articles about animals doing amazing things/getting lost/found, funny news etc.

Joke or a far side comic plus one cheerful “update” like “the neighbors got a new puppy named crackerjack!” Done!

remind them not to get pregnant and share your feelings about Roe.

My mom definitely used to send jokes. Maybe tell some funny stories from your childhood. "there isn't a lot going on around here, I thought I'd tell you about the time grandma jo lost her..." Telling family stories is really good for kids so just another opportunity.

My kid gets homesick so I just write about how boring it is at home. The camp said not to write about fun stuff that is happening without them. So I talk about going to work and doing regular chores. I may mention that we had something for dinner they don't like since they're not home. I remember from my camp days that its not so much what my parents said but the fact that I got a letter that made the difference.

Every day? Or even every other day? I think that’s a lot. I send one note a week and pretty much say ‘hope you are having a blast! See you soon.’ I think too many details from home may make them sad.

You are probably right that I don't need to do it as often, but I remember how much I loved getting letters, even when they didn't say much. I think I still have them all from my mom in a box!

What do you call a sad strawberry? A blueberry.

I write some notes from the dog's POV. Kid thinks it's funny.

I am FB friends with several parents of my kids' friends at school and through scouts. When they are at camp, I'll check on various friends' parents FB page and each day will update my kids on one of their friends. Check 5 friends and you'll have filler for 5 days.

For my kids our camp made things easier to write to them. If you write one day before 5pm, they will print the emails out and deliver to the kids at breakfast the next morning. So it's easy to write each day.

I still remember my father writing "we're having so much without you!" in a letter to me at camp and then I guess my mother told him that the camp said not to do that, so he CROSSED IT OUT and sent it anyway. It was only a very short camp so I thought it was funny, but it has stuck with me all these years.
