The old system had even more problems than the new one.

The TJAAG and the FCDC say “hold my beer.”

Maybe the new board will just get fed up with everyone and close the school

We must not allow any different programs for any students. Public schools must generate the same outcome for everyone. Society only survives when everyone is infused with the same educational mush. Non-conformity with our demands if futile. We are Borg.

Actually the solution for this is for FCPS to offer a wide range of programs meeting the needs of different students. If STEM schools are oversubscribed, replicate them. If accelerated programs are oversubscribed, replicate them. You wouldn't see these problems, with all the associated racial animosity, if FCPS didn't limit TJ-type programs to one school and expect people to compete for admissions using subjective standards.

Of course none of these reforms will ever occur given the electorate in Fairfax. This will just cause the rich to go to private schools leaving mediocre public schools in their wake with little electoral support.

Academic acceleration is only meaningful if there's rigor. Many parents demand that their snowflakes get into these programs but then go crazy when they get a B or C. The school responds by dumbing things down to where everyone gets A's then others complain about grade inflation. Seems like they can't really win here.

When everyone gets A, the university admission officer will then evaluate the students without paying much attention on GPA. There are many others ways to evaluate the students' academic strength, such as AMC, STEM EC, etc. You like it or not, the competition is there.

Obviously that is subject to debate. The old system led to several complaints to the Department of Education under President Obama that ultimately were not pursued. The new system led to a federal court ruling that the new system violated the U.S. Constitution.

If the far-left School Board in San Francisco decided to revert to a merit-based admissions process for Lowell, that may well portend similar changes to TJ down the road. The current system has not worked smoothly. And while there is a cohort of students whose access to TJ has been enhanced due to the changes, there is also a cohort of students whose access to TJ has been impeded due to the changes. There are also many other parents who otherwise don't care that much about TJ, but do care that it's become such a gigantic time-suck.

The far left school board in SF only changed it's way after half were voted out in a recall election.

Gee, you might almost think the terms of the current School Board expire next year.

San Francisco’s Lowell High School, regarded as one of the best in the nation, is seeing a record spike in Ds and Fs among its first batch of students admitted in fall 2021 through a new lottery system instead of its decades-long merit-based admissions.

Even if you don't like the new process TJ selection is not a random lottery so these situations aren't comparable.

Could you please cite your source. I’m not saying it is untrue, but I think the source would be helpful.

Whereas TJ administrators are making it very difficult to give Ds and Fs.

Democrats in the NOVA area will have to pay a price for the sins of FCPS board members.

Not only in NOVA, the whole country is now having a trend turning back to the traditional valuation because Democrats did too much in the past.

They could start a second school in Herndon. Call it Aaron Burr.

I just can't get down with the GOP's regressive positions on assault rifles and women's health.

A questionable admission decision is one thing but purposely putting students in physical jeopardy to score points with gun nuts seems like another.
