44 and have seen fewer injuries when I do yoga weekly and I have to stretch 10 minutes or more after exercise. I'm like the PP who found tight muscles were causing serious back problems.
I originally thought yoga would be really boring, but when I first started I did vinyasa, which moves quickly and is challenging, and I love it. |
I do the bare minimum when it comes to stretching because I am usually pressed for time.
But every now and then I'll do a long yoga session and I can always feel how tight my muscles are. And the deep stretch just feels amazing. |
One thing you could try is to force yourself to stretch, but let yourself hold the stretches for a shorter time or do a modified version of the ones you particularly hate. Even if longer holds are better or the full version of a stretch is better, doing it at all is better than not doing it. So it's a mental trick and maybe you'll find yourself more willing to do it if you don't expect perfection. |
