Unreasonable rule for swim lessons? (RE: requiring swim diapers)

Not only is it an unnecessary expense for families whose kids don't need them, ugh, all those extra unused diapers going into landfills is not great. I'd push back on that.

How do you push back on posted requirements? The entitlement….

Yep. Don’t like it? Go somewhere else. There is no pushing back Karen

A kid poops in the pool, it's a huge pain. Just get a reusable one.

This. I'm betting they've been burned before and now are super cautious. Get the reusable kind and move on with your life.

I understand caution, but a diaper on an almost 5 year old NT kid seems a bit ridiculous.

I don’t think it’s aggressive or Karen-like to politely ask if a soon to be five year old who has been out of diapers for years can be exempt from this policy.

Also, I used reusable diapers and the swim ones we had would not have fit my average sized child at age 4. Where does one find a reusable swim diaper for an almost 5yo?

I’m also curious where this is so we don’t go there.

I’m guessing you haven’t heard of reusable cloth swim diapers? We never used the disposable swim diapers. I actually don’t know anyone who has used them.

What's hilarious is that, to my knowledge, it's not a rule that is at all enforced when it comes to just general swimming around the pool.

It litteraly is only something they push for kids that are involved in swim lessons.

Like...what??!

Maybe they find that kids don’t want to “interrupt” the lesson or they’re too distracted so they’re more likely to have accidents? I mean probably what happened is a series of poop accidents and then a rule that is on the conservative side. I don’t see why it’s a big deal.

Because it's just more plastic for landfills, that's going to end up as hormone disruptors. And it's an added financial cost for the swim lesson. If management wants diapers on all little kids, they should buy them out of their pool budget!

I don’t know what the waste is from whatever they do to de-poop the pool but it’s probably not insignificant.

I’m in awe of your financial logic.

Here's a listing for a $14 reuaseable diaper made to fit your child: https://www.etsy.com/listing/695246724/size-large-plaid-boys-swim-diaper-little?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=swim+diaper+5t&ref=sr_gallery-1-6&frs=1

That being said, I do think it's a bit much to expect fully potty trained 4yos to have to wear one JUST for swim classes. My 2yo has been fully out of diapers for six months now and I can't imagine having to buy swim diapers for her for the next two years.

Would you happen to know if these can be slipped on like underpants?

We bought DS the disposable swimmers just because we figured there would be no need for a reusable one once swim lessons had concluded. But really the price of the disposable swimmers isn't really much better.

I would complain to the manager that it's not environmentally friendly, and it's an added financial burden on participating families. If they want to provide free diapers, then they should do so.

I have never actually used this seller but there is a “pull up” option in the drop downs

Our country club fines the parents $1000 for every poop accident and empties the pool, forcing everyone out for over 24 hours.

Damn straight my four year old who potty trained at 21 months and has never had a poop accident of any kind.

+1. “Code Brown”. The kid (who the parents swear has never, ever had a poop accident before) is the pool villain for weeks.

Agreed. I don’t have a problem with requiring swim diapers but 4 seems a little old for this policy.
