What does being 40 have to do with it? Obviously you were balding before 40 to be worried about it now. It'd hereditary anyway so nothing aside from castor oil or hair implants |
DP, nothing fixed my ferritin until menopause - then it went up dramatically without doing anything. |
Did you notice an improvement in your hair from this? |
My derm recommended combo of iron ( I had low iron)+ minoxidil + nutrafol. It’s absolutely worked. |
. Citation? |
Same here – normal iron levels, very very low ferritin. I got mine up by a combination of swapping out the PPIs I was waiting for acid reflux (switched to famotidine), which were stopping me from absorbing iron from my food, and taking (after trial and error) polypeptide iron pills. I would say I’ve grown about 3/4 of my hair back. It was thin to start with so it still doesn’t look awesome, but it doesn’t look odd either. |
My vitamin D level is technically normal (35.5 out of a range of 30-100), but my dermatologist said to try to get it up to 100. I was taking one vitamin daily, but I just started taking 2. |
I am reviving this thread with hopes that the OP and previous responders give updates. My ferritin was 28 when my hair was shedding terribly. I believe my ferritin tanked due to a poor diet and high intensity exercising (that was a result of the pandemic- trying to avoid the reality I was living in). Before the pandemic, my ferritin was in the high 50s. My MD retested my blood for other reasons and my ferritin was up to 42. My hair shedding is almost back to normal but I am almost BALD! I’ve been taking iron in the mornings along with a glass of juice and upped my intake of iron rich foods during the 5 weeks. I am now eager to get the 42 close to 100 by the end of the year. For hair regrowth, I am not going to get an Rx just yet because I think my hair loss was due to my low (although within range) ferritin but I’ve been taking biotin, zinc, and magnesium supplements. Anyone have success regrowing their hair without prescription meds or rogaine where hair loss was due to vitamin deficiency? What other changes have you made to help your success? And how long did it take to see results and get your hair back to normal? I’ll take 75% back to normal. TIA |

LC + IF + inositol and choline http://msfullhair.com/inositol-for-hair-loss-adding-choline-makes-it-extra-powerful/ Shedding slowed fairly quickly, significant regrowth took 6 months, hair growth cycles are long. Insulin resistance increases with age and with many common meds (google to see if yours impact glucose or insulin). It increases in women at perimenopause. IR is linked to hair loss in women and early hair loss in men. https://www.thehealthy.com/diabetes/type-2-diabetes/insulin-resistance-symptoms/ Making these changes was great for my vanity but it also lowers the risks for diabetes, NAFLD, heart disease, mood disorders, some cancers and Alzheimer's, all linked to IR. So, win/win. Spearmint tea can also help but is a smaller lever than changing and spacing eating. It has effects similar to but w/o side effects of spiro. 2 cups a day and can't be other mints. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ptr.2900 Good luck! |
Which do you take? Does it cause constipation? Thanks. |
