The pay for MCPS employees is not a livable wage in Montgomery County. Affluent families recognize this and do not encourage their children to pursue a career in education, especially if they are paying a lot of money on top tier universities. Given the steep decline in standards and rigor of the MCPS curriculum in addition to the difficulties attracting talented teachers will only strengthen the trend of MCPS graduates turning to private schools or other districts to educate their children. Know your audience is an important concept in public speaking. Harris definitely demonstrated she is tone deaf to the communities she was speaking to. |
Don't let that ruin a good DCUM hate! |
Unless you heard the speech, you can’t really comprehend how bad and out of touch it was. I did not make that comment but I can see how someone would come to that conclusion after listening to her odd, off topic rambling on and on. Because what else was the point of it?? |
New poster here… I was there and the speech was awful. Not just her words either, she had terrible delivery. We were with several families for dinner and the parents didn’t bring it up. The kids actually started the conversation about how weird it was. |
Yep. This isn’t a petty DCUM hate post as a pp suggested. It was that bad. |
Agreed - I thought the keynote speaker at the BCC graduation was an embarrassment. Smondroski gave a cute, brief, generic talk that I'm sure she gives at all the graduations but at least wasn't as cringe-worthy as the woman with Princeton and Yale degrees whose main claim to fame is serving as mayor of one of the exclusive neighborhoods of CCMD. So so so tone deaf. |
