This will pass through in the morning when temps aren't nearly as high, so the storms won't have as much energy behind them. Could be strong storms, sure, but nothing like 2012.

Hope you're right. Power in my area was out for a couple of days and it was beastly hot--difficult to sleep.

The forecaster I listened to said there is no way it will be like that storm. Unlikely to even be a derecho.

Thank goodness. That derecho was terrifying and we lost power for 7 days and a fence fell over. The sky looked terrifying just before it passed over and it was the first time I woke my kids up and moved them to the basement. I had never heard of a derecho before but was plenty familiar with tornadoes from growing up in the Midwest.

Was my first time hearing of it too. It broke windows in our downtown DC condo building. Totally nuts.

Apparently, it is super rare and, therefore, not really a term we learned growing up in 7th grade Earth Science class.

Praying we avoid it .

Climate change is real.

Please, this!! We cannot extend this school year at this point!
We were in rehobeth in 2012, didn’t lose power but it was our second to last day and we came home to a heatwave and no AC. I was pregnant and so uncomfortable that 4 year old and I hightailed it to in laws.

There was a storm that came through upper NW/CC/SS about a year before the derecho at 7:30am that did much more damage to my neighborhood than the Derecho did. All of the sudden it got really dark and mini tornadoes swept through. A tree landed on our house. The Derecho was a walk in the park compared to that.

I totally remember that one! Our basement flooded because we got so much rain on our back patio and they just fell down the exterior basement stairs like a waterfall.

We experience no damage or power outage in Carver Langston Our grocery store was one of the only ones open for a good bit too. Was thankful to not experience the derecho minus the listening to the crazy storm. We were incredibly lucky and had a few friends camp at our place. It sounded so bad.

10 years ago, we were one of the only streets in our neighborhood with power, partly because our street is very small, with just one narrow lane, and S-shaped. No corridor for the wind to accelerate in. We had three different families holed up in our house who had lost power in theirs!

Was that what they called a microburst? I’m remembering a really bad storm in the morning, and I took the kids to the staircase (the most interior part of our house) to wait it out. It was BAD, if that’s the one you’re talking about.

We had that one too. The drain overwhelmed quickly.

Yup we had no power for a week and it was almost 100 degrees the entire time. We finally reserved a hotel room and the power came back on a few hours later.

Same! I remember covering all of my windows that didn’t have blinds with newspaper to try to keep the sun out. It was so hot!

The Chicago area got hit with it last night (Fort Wayne, Indiana had winds over 90 mph). Lots of people without power out there and it's hot!

I was living in Kensington in 2012. One of the homes had the entire front torn off by a massive tree. And I mean the ENTIRE front. It left the house looking like a dollhouse.

Looks like we missed it
