Not what we're talking about.

What do you mean? Someone asked about shootings at independent schools on the past 10 years. There was one at Burke a few weeks ago.

And multiple people got shot.

And the shooter set up a sniper’s nest 160 feet from the school. So locked doors, vestibules and an armed guard wouldn’t have stopped him.

I think shots into the school were incidental -- the school was not a target.

BTW there has been radio silence on this incident. I have heard nothing more about the shooting or the shooter. What was this Fairfax kid doing in an expensive apmt on Van Ness street?

It is not expensive. But that is not something one is allowed to point out in polite company.

The school was clearly the target. He started shooting at dismissal, aiming right at the pick-up line and the bridge that crosses the alley, connecting the high school building to the Connecticut Avenue entrance/exit.

Last I saw in the press a couple of weeks ago, the investigation is continuing but they haven't learned (or perhaps shared) much about the shooter's motivations.

The school WAS the target.

The school WAS the target. You clearly aren’t following the news at all. This WaPo and Cole is pretty accurate except it leaves out how the NOI poster has been turned into an anti-black meme on 4chan.

It wasn’t IN Burke, he shot at the building

No. Semi urban but contained and fenced school area.

Anyone can wander around the upper school at most hours 3-9pm.

Bags can be left anywhere for long periods of time.

No one asks if you need anything if lost or loitering.

Various rooms or facilities are rented out weekdays or weekends.

Kids of all ages sign themselves in if late or returning from an appointment. ID is never asked for.

Kids can take unlimited bathroom breaks whenever they want, with most teachers. No time limit.

And shot four people, all members of the school community, including a 12-year-old who was on the bridge and a parent who was still hospitalized as of the article PP linked to above. It is absolutely true the shooter was not in the building. But to say he "shot at the building" is ridiculous. He shot at the people and hit four of them. Please stop trying to minimize a horrifying event.

Where do the presidents send their kids? Those schools must have too security and protocols.

PP I don’t even understand what you’re saying. What wasn’t in the building? Bullets were most certainly shot into the building and into people who were inside the building. Your attitude is giving a pass to more crazy sniper wannabes.

Back to security, one of our kids private schools is well fenced with a high fence and cameras plus a guard along the drive inS

The other kids private school is pretty lax and you could walk or drive in a variety of ways, and say whatever you wish to the door person.
In fact the school office is in the center id the building so unless they call about or escort you there, no one knows what meeting is with whom or pick up or just say you’re volunteering.

It’d be an easy PI project to see how easy one could talk their way in to a school. And be allowed to roam around unchecked.
