Because this didn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s not an isolated incident. It’s become a regular occurrence. This was just one of many school shooters. We can’t design policies around one single criminal (and it wouldn’t help after he’s already committed the crime anyway), but we can make policy to address societal ills that cost numerous lives every single day.

And yet, if we could go back in time and put through legislation to forbid the sale of AK-15s or the sale of weapons to teenagers, or to make a 24 hour wait period, or to require safety training for the purchase of guns, would you agree to do it knowing these would have prevented the deaths of 19 children?
