Look up “wake windows.” At 4 mos a baby is only up 2 hrs or less per stretch. 90 mins is within average.
Understanding wake windows is very helpful as they grow. Most people keep babies awake too long. |
100%. The schedule sounds pretty close to what we did with my son and we tried to stick to age appropriate wake windows. He was also a good sleeper and has no issues. Sounds well within the range of normal to me. |
There’s literally a book called “The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program” by Dr. Polly Moore. Yes, talk to your doctor, but it sounds like your baby is an on-the-clock 90 minute sleeper. You should get the book, it’s good! |
| Op, your kid eats and sleeps beautifully. |
| Sounds normal and great. Nannies are wonderful but she is not a doctor and i’m certain your doctor will tell you your baby is doing great. |
| Are you sure your nanny isn’t just used to older babies or kids? Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much a young baby sleeps and eats. |
| Sounds completely in line with my son at 4 months. Around 4 months sleep is going to start changing but his awake windows are totally normal. His feeding sounds normal too. |
| Sounds right to me! My kids are all big sleepers. Two of them averaged around 18 hours a day from 1 month to around 6 months. They are 2, 5 and 7 and they all routinely sleep 12+ hours with the 2 year old still getting around 14 hours a day. |
| Sounds fine, nanny is probably used to crap sleepers/eaters. |
+1! There is so much research behind 90- and 180-minute sleep windows that I am shocked your nanny doesn’t know about this. Even when babies are “catnappers,” they usually sleep 45 minutes—as in one half of an infant sleep cycle—because they haven’t yet learned to connect two sleep cycles into 90 minutes. Read that book. |
+1 My kids were like this. I was a devotee of Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child by Dr Weisbluth. He would be so proud! Your child is the poster child for Weisbluth. His tagline is “sleep begets sleep.” Sounds like your kid is doing great. |
| Sounds totally normal, just on the high range of amount of hours for the day. My friend’s baby was like this. Everything sounds very typical though and he’s eating an incredibly normal amount. I just thank your lucky stars holy moly (my kids were NOT like this despite me killing myself to try to follow wake windows and do all the things) and feel good mama! |
Just for any moms out there trying this but not getting the same results - it’s ok it’s also sometimes the baby. I did all.the.things. And still very much ascribe to the sleep begets sleep philosophy even with my 1 and 4 year old who are now good sleepers but man I have really crappy newborn baby sleepers! I mean within normal range, but woof! This is only a note in case another mom of a newborn is reading this going omg what am I doing wrong my baby doesn’t take 3 1.5 hr a day naps!! It’s ok, keep using the tools, follow wake windows, and know that some babies take a little more time. And some need more sleep than others. |
| Your nanny is wrong. Most every suggested schedule/routine you look up for a 4 month old will say 1.5-2hr wake windows. 2-3 hours isn’t really til 6 or 7 months for many babies, so don’t worry. It sounds like he sleeps and eats great, I would really not worry! |
| You have what’s called an easy baby. Thank the stars. My second one slept 20 hrs a day, waking only to eat and poop. He’s now a strapping 6’5” college kid studying nuclear physics. |
