Transition from formula to milk

Anonymous
I was in a similar boat with about 2 weeks left of formula when my baby was 11 months so just did a super slow transition over the course of the month until the formula was gone. Worked well and my toddler has been drinking whole milk since his first birthday. He also had no issues with solids or water intake by 11 months so I didn’t worry about the transition at all. You should be totally fine!

Could you give them cow's milk with added iron drops?

At 12 months, we tried giving my son whole milk. He just drank it. No issue. We haven't used formula since.

Not you again! For God’s sake, humans have been drinking cows milk for over four thousand years and have developed a evolutionary need for the nutrients. How fricking many times do you have to be told this? Plus you have proudly admitted that you give your child yogurt and cheese - which IS MILK.

Lol. I am the pp but I'm not posting "again." I love this though as it indicates that there is someone else who agrees with me.

I posted last week about babies not needing to drink milk if parents don't want to give it and they attacked me as well for my STRONG ANTI-DAIRY STANCE so obviously they're sensitive to this issue lol.

There hasn’t been any in stock near us, but I would prefer to transition to whole milk instead of chasing it. Is this reasonable? I’m still waiting to hear back from the pediatrician but because of the shortage I know I’ll need to start planning now if not.
My thoughts are with all the parents of younger infants who rely on formula right now. Appreciate any insight.

Unless your baby has a medical issue that necessitates staying on formula at that age I don't see why not. Start to transition now so you don't have to do it suddenly. I found this article by Matt Yglaisas interesting (and yes I realize that many people hate him... I have no strong feelings towards him one way or another). Basically, in Canada parents are told to transition their babies to whole milk between 9-12 months, with that caveat that they are eating enough iron rich solids. https://www.slowboring.com/p/a-straightforward-solution-to-the?s=r
