I have an eleven month old who is formula fed, and we have about two more weeks of formula in our house. There hasn’t been any in stock near us, but I would prefer to transition to whole milk instead of chasing it. Is this reasonable? I’m still waiting to hear back from the pediatrician but because of the shortage I know I’ll need to start planning now if not.
My thoughts are with all the parents of younger infants who rely on formula right now. Appreciate any insight. |
| We started transitioning ours at that age. It was a slow transition mainly because we started a little early and weren’t in a rush, but check with your pediatrician. |
| I’m sure it would be fine to start now. 12 months isn’t some magical milestone. Try a little cows milk and see how he reacts and takes it. Do a little shot in his formula bottle. Watch for gas and constipation or stomach upset. |
| Yes of course it’s fine. The only reason they delay to 12 months is to make sure the baby is getting enough solids with iron. |
|
I'd probably do it gradually.
So this week do bottles 1/4 whole milk, Next week 1/2 and 1/2 The week after 3/4 Then you should be close to the first birthday when you run out and get to all whole milk. |
| We had our 9 month checkup last week and the pediatrician said it was fine to switch around 10-11 months if we had a problem finding formula. She didn’t seem concerned about it. |
| No need tot b switch to cow's milk. Baby human is not a baby cow. Just feed regular food. |
You know that cheese, yogurt, ice cream, is made from “baby cow” food, too, right, idiot? You post the same nonsense every time anyone mentions cows milk. You’re an idiot and a boring one at that. Yes, OP, it is both fine and beneficial to give your 12 month old whole cows milk. |
Regular food like dairy, PP?
|
This is how I did it with my ds. He rejected milk initially, so I switched to a gradual blend like pp suggested and it worked for him. |
Not you again! For God’s sake, humans have been drinking cows milk for over four thousand years and have developed a evolutionary need for the nutrients. How fricking many times do you have to be told this? Plus you have proudly admitted that you give your child yogurt and cheese - which IS MILK. |
Lol. I am the pp but I'm not posting "again." I love this though as it indicates that there is someone else who agrees with me.
|
No one else agrees with you, dear, because you are an idiot. And boring. |
+1. |
| Yes but since you have two weeks of formula left I would start the transition gradually now. Better to do it slowly and gradually then suddenly when you run out of formula. Start with replacing 2 oz of formula with 2 oz of whole milk. Keep increasing until the whole bottle is whole milk. |
