+2. Mama’s is the only answer you need. |
But I read the Yelp and a bunch of people said the service was bad and the staff demanded higher tip to the customers to their faces. With behavior like that I might be a little worried about what is happening in the kitchen? Have the China Bistro supporters here tried other places or just China Bistro? |
| I’m the original China Bistro recommender. I’ve been to Bob’s and A&J. Those places are good, but if the OP is looking for dumplings specifically, China Bistro is the place to go. Dumplings are their speciality, and they hand-wrap all the dumplings to order. I’ve never experienced terrible service there or been asked to tip more. But when I go to Chinese restaurants I go for the food, not the service. (I’m Chinese.) |
| PP again. I agree that Hollywood East has good dim sum, but that’s not the same thing as dumplings (jiaozi). |
Lol, one has so little to do with the other. This is like worrying about the food quality at a Jamaican restaurant where they are rude to you. If anything, the ruder, the better the food. |
+1 A&J only has potstickers/guotie, no boiled dumplings/shuijiao. While Bob's does have pork and leek/jiucai dumplings, dumplings aren't really a Shanghai item and you're better off ordering the xiaolongbao. Like a good Northeast/Dongbei dumpling house, China Bistro offers nearly two dozen fillings with pork, chicken or beef and a variety of vegetables plus fish and shrimp and vegetarian options. |
| We just did huge carryout for Mother's Day. The Mama's dumplings (shrimp and pork) in my opinion are the best - also we like them pan fried! |

Another vote for east dumpling house. I haven't eaten at China Bistro (Mama Dumplings) in years but I remember it was pretty good also. East dumpling house has a lot of good dishes and is a bigger space if you are looking to eat in the restaurant.

When people ask for Chinese dumplings, they are usually not referring to the Cantonese/Hong Kong style dumplings.
East dumplings and China Bistro is good. Also Shanghai Taste. I very much prefer the Cantonese/Hong Kong style more. |
