| Pipes breaking could happen anywhere - could just as easily be shoddy worksmanship in the new construction as worn out infrastructure in the old sections. Bummer for the students and teachers! |
| Barnsley had a flood in the media center like 5-6 years ago. This current issue was in the older part of the building. |
Have you been to the school recently? The stairs on the side already look like they are wearing down. Less than 5 years after they were built. If you haven’t been up then, take a walk up those steep stairs on the left side of the building. Don’t think it’s unique to Barnsley though. I’m sure most schools have issues with mold and shoddy construction. At least no kids have been bitten by rats, like in that DCPS thread! |
Do you realize how bad condition some of the schools are. Yes, it could happen anywhere but they should have used this as an opportunity to make needed repairs and fix new or old infrastructure. |
This. MCPS has millions of dollars to spend on bocce and the Kid Museum, while so many of our schools are in terrible condition. |
Yikes, Bocce and the Kid Museum, becoming the latest post on every thread! Maybe it would make a good band name??? |
Everyone needs a bogey man! |
Do you disagree with the point behind the comment? MCPS has a finite amount of money in the budget. If money is spent on one thing (eg Bocce or the Kid Museum), that means there will be less money for other things (eg updating buildings/infrastructure). So, it seems reasonable to wonder why MCPS chose to spend millions of dollars on bocce and the Kid Museum, when it is a well-known fact that many MCPS buildings need attention. What exactly do you disagree with? |
| Sometimes plumbing problems just happen. I have had a few in my home. It happens over time. It does not mean my house is not well kept up or needs to be torn down. |
NP. It's just an odd argument in this *particular* thread when the school in question was redone just a few years ago (the students were in a holding school for a year etc). Agreed that priorities can seem out of whack in general, like all the new executives they are hiring. |
DP. There are two separate budgets. An operating budget (things like staff salaries & benefits) and a capital budget (things like building construction & maintenance). Operating: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/budget/FY2023_OperatingBudgetTentativelyAdoptedBOE.pdf Capital: https://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP23_BOERequested.pdf |
It just had an addition. It was not rebuilt. I doubt the pipes in the original part were replaced. |
| Off topic but does anyone remember the school motto (probably has changed) Respect, ???, Ready to Learn? Discussing with my kid who is now in college. We are trying to remember. It was when Mr Winters was there. |
Yes, I know. It's just odd to complain in a thread about a school that was JUST upgraded significantly that MCPS isn't doing enough with capital improvements. I heard a handle came off a door at Bel Pre elementary school last week. It was razed and rebuilt a few years ago. Should we start a thread about that so you can complain about capital improvements there too? |
