People that don’t tip well are trash. I tip 40-50 percent but you should tip at least 20

In Australia, for example, restaurant staff are paid fairly, tipping is not used and restaurants still exist.

This, but it doesn't sound like this was the situation. Since you saw it in advance, I'd be super embrassed to be seen with him and would have left extra to cover for it. I also would never dine with them again.
