Interesting folks says she was a great AP at claremont. I would say cert much the opposite and think she was pretty disliked among staff. |
Today my 1st grader came home wearing a sticker that said "Bring Back Dr Gaston, the heart & soul of Taylor Elementary." They were handed out by some of the older students (5th graders, I was told). |
Many reading specialists don’t know much about effectively teaching kids to read. The ones who refuse to improve their practices are often moved to high schools where they theoretically do less harm since they can work on comprehension and their decoding gaps are likely less critical.

Right on point. Being popular and well liked has nothing to do with the quality of one’s work. If she had made a real impact, she would have been selected as Principal, no questions asked, because APS is HUNGRY for diversity. The fact that she was not selected despite her long history with the school says A LOT. More than likely former principal said “no way”. |
Does anyone know what is actually going on here? I’m seeing posts on Nextdoor saying the administration is bullying teachers and teachers are afraid to speak out. Speak out about what? We have had a lot of interaction with this principal and she has been nothing but kind and supportive. This seems over the top. |
It’s a few people making a lot of noise because they’re unhappy about their reading teacher not being selected as principal. They are being awful. Totally unfair to the principal. |
100%! She was not well liked by parents or staff at Claremont. In fact, most were happy to see her go! Teachers often said they didn’t feel like they could speak up at IEP meeting because of her. It was a really bad situation. Claremont parents have been waiting for this flair up at Taylor. We knew it was coming. |
Taylor is one of the few schools that had zero field trips this year. Fourth grade trip to Jamestown is a rite of passage that many kids and families were looking forward to. Some schools went others didn't, including Taylor. I think many people blamed the principal's overly covid cautious culture she is trying to impose. I hope she accepts that things need to be TOTALLY normal by next year. This expectation needs to come from her at the top. |
As a Taylor family who was rezoned to ASFS, this has all been so interesting to read. We really liked the previous principal. |
Her blurb resume when she got the post was ALL about immersion, how she had made it a foundation of career, she had like 15 years experience in immersion. Is it possible she is unhappy at a neighborhood school and she was holding out for an immersion Principal or maybe at Gunston? |
Which schools didn’t go? |
I follow her on Twitter, and she's had to lock down her account a couple times this year (it's currently set to private). Today she posted a bunch of pictures of her and staff tye-dying t-shirts. Lots of smiling faces.
Having listened to her speak at a lot of PTA zooms, she comes across as the nicest, least-threatening person on earth, so I don't know what to believe. It hasn't affected my kids directly, so I'm not getting involved in this at all, and I hope it can all be settled amicably and quickly. |
Covid cautious? Are we talking about the same principal who is ignoring and/or massively under-reporting the fifth grade outbreak? |
ATS did zero field trips |
Jamestown, discovery, Nottingham and ashlawn went, I think. |
