Is it really that hard to get into college?

+1. True. But it wouldn’t hurt to start exposing them to more interesting and less suburban things. See if they have a passion for art or bag pipes or urban horticulture. Get them involved in volunteer work now and see what develops.

Okay, so what I am about to write is not directed at your kids because I don’t know them but the chance of any suburban kid finding their passion and talent playing video games, watching TV, and playing weekend soccer is fairly nonexistent. We have to get our kids out there.

My kid totally found his passion from youtube.

What’s his passion? I’m guessing if it isn’t making YouTube videos, he could have found it in the world.

Most of which are not worth going to if you are from an UMC family with a long history of attending top colleges and certain expectations, like coming from a top private school. Those of you who keep posting this flip can let your kids to no name and mediocre schools but for some people that’s just not acceptable.

It’s the opposite, actually. If you’re already rich going to a top school will hardly make a difference in your life.

So if it's not acceptable to go to a non T30 school and you're kid doesn't get in one, what do you do? Disown your kid? Encourage suicide?

OK, well you’d better make sure your kids are beyond exceptional, because high GPA, high class rank, sports and school clubs aren’t going to cut it anymore.
