Annoying and crazy dog owners

I agree you're looking for a fight, OP, with that title and premise.

I hate barking. I have a very silent dog. But I understand, none better, that unless you're ready to put a electronic collar on a dog (and I'm not against them, they're great tools in the right hands), you can't really stop a dog who wants to bark.

Np You should be against them. There is no "right hands" It is cruel plain and simple. It is like saying using a belt on a child is ok "in the right hands" No it isn't. When trying to stop a behavior you need to look at the why it is occurring and get to the bottom of that. Some dogs do bark more but,if they are properly exercised mentally and physically and not left alone they probably won't bark.

I used to feel that way but am strongly considering one for my puppy. He is rarely alone, gets walks and socialization but training cuts barking back only a bit. He likes to bark like some kids like to sing. I think he enjoys the sound of his bark. He barks at everything and will not stop. He mainly barks in the house/yard and is usually ok on walks but not always.

There seems to be something in the DNA of dog owners that gets activated when they purchase a pet. They suddenly become so inconsiderate, deaf to the barking that offends so many others, and absolutely flabbergasted and offended if someone has any kind of problem with their dog "parenting". Starting to think there's something wrong with a lot of them, and I notice more and more people feeling the same.

Did they strike a nerve? Letting your dog run amok and you convinced yourself it's "cute" and everyone loves you?

This question sent it to the NYT about an apartment neighbor's dog's incessant barking has inspired a lot of people in the comment section to vent about what a common noise disruption it is. I've also noticed a shift in the past 20 years with how dogs are treated/thought of. What do the people of DCUM think?
Your link is asking me to subscribe. I won't do that.

You sound plenty unhinged too.

I love love love dogs.

I did not love the giant black animal that rushed at me during a run this morning and scared me. It turned out to be a doodle, but I didn't know that when it came at me so quickly. I do wish people were better about leashes, even in Rock Creek Park.
