Need to elevate this thread for the pathetic morons whose kids got rejected from Northeastern this year and have to create new threads every day to trash it. |
Thought the NEU threads were really insightful and laudatory towards the university. Wonder how thought the opposite. |
| Stupid. Clickbait. And like it's going to stop DCUM from posting such posts. It happens every week. |
|
Every single week. Multiple times per week. From the same one or two rejected families.
Northeastern is gaining in popularity, pure and simple. Is it a top 10 school. No. Top 20? No. And it is not a great fit for everyone as it has a very specific feel (urban) and program (co-op/experiential emphasis). But for a lot of kids, it is very attractive and it is far from a safety or target school for anyone anymore and people need to deal with that. Kids who go there seem to love it and thrive and have great outcomes. The tired arguments about NEU "gaming" the rankings is stupid. It's based on a 10-year old article about how NEU thought it had a unique program and it wanted to become more of a nationally-known university. It made it very clear that it cracked the USNews rankings code to climb the rankings very quickly. Honestly, that article is more of an indictment of how stupid/arbitrary the rankings are...NEU was just clever enough to use them to their advantage. It didn't cheat (like several other colleges have done- ahem, Columbia/Emory)...it simply pulled apart the metrics and invested in those factors. Once people started paying attention to the school, however, it gained in popularity because of the strength of its programs and its location. Again, I'm not a particular advocate one way or another (my kids have both looked at NEU, one applied and got in but didn't go, the other applied and didn't get in)...but the vitriol from the one or two posters is clearly based on grievance. |
+1 Thanks for this. Several top students from DC's school have gone to NEU in recent years and have loved it. Talking to their parents recently I can totally understand the appeal. It had not been on our radar for our kids (a rising freshman and junior) but we will definitely be checking it out, especially for our older daughter who is a high-stats STEM kid and city lover and would thrive in a place with more hands-on learning (loves robotics/engineering types of clubs but may want something more interdisciplanary). |

PS: This Public Service Announcement is brought to you by Northeastern University Marketing |
Let's think about for a moment - 1. Why is Northeastern is the only target for a flame war? 2. Why parents are upset about college outcomes only for Northeastern ? 3. Why kids and parents are insecure that other people going to Northeastern? Basically what I am asking everyone - Why are Northeastern promoters playing the victim card? |
Because the same rejected Northeastern kid/parent posts 40-50 times a day on DCUM. And. It. Is. Pathetic. |
+1000 It's hilarious but sad too. They use the same language/phrases in all of these threads. Call people "NEU boosters" or "promoters." Pretend that there are Northeastern "marketers" trolling around here. Link to the decade old article about the USNews report. You do see similar things on occasion for University of Chicago or Case Western but it is true that NEU seems to get the most vitriol from these rejects. Get over it, people. All you're doing is fueling interest in the school (all of these posts happened last year too...and interest in the school just grows and grows and grows). |
Not so...there have been dozens of these idiotic posts...."Is Emory an elite school"? "Is Wash U considered elite?" Blah, blah, blah....OP is right. These posts are not written by people looking for useful information. They are looking to start a dumpster fire. |
|
Yes, there was a great one a while back...it was titled something like: "Elite schools: T10? T15?"
The best response was something to the effect: "Elite colleges: The ones that accepted your kid Underrated colleges: The ones your kids attend Bad/Scam colleges: The ones who rejected your kid" |
This is an anonymous board, how do you even know if it is a kid, a parent with a kid who was rejected, or someone unaffiliated ? And why does it bother you ? |
Can you provide links to any of this posts? I have been on this board a long time and never seen any school other than NE getting flamed because some people affiliated with it always claiming how it is better than every school out there... |
