By 13, most kids can get around these. Do you have any idea where she might be posting and if the accounts are public? If they are public Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, Twitter, etc. you only need her phone once to find out her main accounts and secret accounts and then you can follow. If they are private, you can create a fake account. Lots of kids unfortunately accept anyone. Or have someone you trust follow her that she wouldn’t think of hiding as much from and they can report to you. Is there a younger aunt, uncle or older responsible cousin? If you are worried she’s sending them on Snapchat there isn’t much you can do since those are private messages that disappear. There are so many other apps that they use now. It’s hard to keep up so instead of monitoring it all, I spot check what I can and constantly have discussions with my kids. - mom who has btdt |
I believe she is posting in Reddit. Any advice about how to get her username? I believe I have the date that she posted the video. |
Avid Reddit user here. What subreddit (forum) do you think it was? Go there and look for her posting |
I am looking for forums where teens exchange information about abusing over the counter drugs and where you can post videos. I don’t have any specifics beyond that. I have never used Reddit and have spent the 2 last days looking around but I was not even able to find the right forum. |
You can post videos on any forum. There is r/teenagers that is very active. R/drugs also. R/trees is the marijuana subreddit. You may want to search by specific OTC drug to see if it has its own subreddit. |
You need to dig and go down rabbit holes. If you can even glance at her phone to get an idea of her username that will help immensely. (I found my child's "secret" insta when I took their phone to verizon for a (much begged for) upgrade. Kid had to unlock the phone to get the information transferred. They then went to food court because waiting for the data transfer was "boring." I stayed with the phone.) |
Thank you! |

No advice. Just a quick note to wish you good luck with all of this. It's so hard.

| Bark. But you have to have some info to get it set up (like a linked account or a password or an ability to synch the phone to the computer to get it going... |
| You take the phone. Unless she bought it with her own money, it is your property and you take the phone. My kids know we will check their phones. If they change the password, we will take the phone. |
The way to do this is to call her into the room, tell her to give you her phone with it unlocked and look at it in front of her. Be sure you know how to find hidden apps before you do this. |
No, it won't. You're the parent. Act like it. |
